Advantages: An amazing idea, it allowed us to see a lot more of New York Disadvantages: Not always spaces upstairs, Annoying and Disrespectful Tour Guides
(Tuesday) we started walking to Central Park, not only were we going in the wrong direction, but a man in a blue coat came up to us asking us to join their bus tour. Around us, we could see hundreds of men, in blue and red waistcoats, all holding laminated pieces of paper. My nan being the sceptical person she is, said no, we?re not buying anything from someone on the street, we don?t know what it is or if it?s any good. Luckily we were just near the Empire State Building, which if you read my previous reviews, you will know it?s right near our hotel, so we padded on back to the hotel to ask about the City Sights NewYork Bus Tour.
The receptionist said she didn?t know too much about that particular bus tour, however, she has dealt with the Grey Line NewYork Bus Tours and they were supposed to be brilliant. She then told us, to walk out ...
Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts
the same place where we started!
The 3.5* hotel looks great from the outside with its revolving doors and door men and the reception and lobby area inside is splashed out in marble and looks very classy. We felt a bit trampy arriving in our comfy trousers and trainers looking hot and exhausted from the 8 hour flight and from lugging our suitcases through the streets!
We were checked in quickly and shown where the elevators were up to our room. No one came to help us with our cases though which we were expecting.
Our room was nice and big which I hear is unusual for NewYork hotel rooms so we were pleased with that. We did have 2 double beds in the room which was strange as we only needed the one but that didn't bother us we just used one as a bed and one as a big sofa. The TV was absolutely huge! It's by far the biggest one I've ever ...
Advantages: Fabulous shopping, bargains, great sights Disadvantages: You will be tired and have foot pain at the end of the trip
there is more than four people in your group you're going to need two taxis and obviously that will double your cost.
The ride into the city doesn't take long and I have to say that when we emerged from the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhattan it was everything I expected and more. Hundreds of yellow cabs, honking horns, loud noises and that was only one street in. We arrived at our hotel - the Milford Plaza on Eighth Avenue - and checked in quickly. By this time the jet lag was starting to set in a bit so we just went for a walk outside the hotel and found something to eat.
One of my first memories of NewYork was walking down the road and seeing a fire engine come out of a firehouse and speed down the road, with passers by cheering and clapping them as they went. This was in March 2004, two and a half years after 9/11, and it was ...
