Advantages: Fun songs, great cast Disadvantages: Not for children or the easily offended
, definitely not to everyone's tastes, due to the 'strong language and sexual content'. There are a couple of tracks which I really dislike, but they are essential from a plot point of view.
This really isn't a CD for everyone, but it might appeal to some people who don't like the traditional musical. You will either enter into the spirit of it and love it for its unique charm, or you won't, and will probably find it the oddest, most disturbing thing you've ever heard. I, in case you hadn't worked it out, love it. The show is so very American that I don't think it would be likely to come over to the West End, which would obviously increase its availability (and possibly decrease the cost), but it is well worth getting even when there is little or no prospect of seeing the show.

The facts. The CD 'Avenue Q ? OriginalBroadway ...
Advantages: Original and hilarious songs! Disadvantages: Divide songs up more!
I first became aware of Avenue Q, after seeing them perform in the Royal Variety Performance. I found it so funny and entertaining, and I loved the concept of the whole show. So I became quite desperate to go and watch it, but unfortunately no one else was as interested as me in watching it.
Luckily for me, I found this soundtrack, and I?m grateful I did. It kept me entertained for months, but a drawback was that, because I hadn?t seen the whole musical, I didn?t know what some of the songs were on about at first (you?ll hopefully work it out as I did though). The tracks that feature on this CD are:
1. Avenue Q Theme (1:02)
2. What Do You Do With A BA In English/It Sucks To Be Me (5:55)
3. If You Were Gay (2:30)
4. Purpose (2:28)
5. Everyone's A Little Bit Racist (5:27)
6. Internet Is For Porn (2:59)
7. Mix Tape (3:35)
8. I ...
Advantages: So funny, you'll get belly cramps Disadvantages: Not for the prudish!
It's hard to review the CD without reviewing the musical as well, so here goes.
Avenue Q tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed graduate who enters the 'real world' (in this case, New York), full of optimism and little cash. With a tiny bank account, he can only afford to move into Avenue Q, and he soon discovers that the 'real world' is nothing at all like what he had imagined. But he gets much support from his friendly, problems-ladened neighbours.
There's Kate Monster, a kindergarten teaching assistant who's pretty, kind, smart and has a gigantic heart - but wonders then, why doesn't she have a boyfriend? Trekkie Monster (no relations to Kate Monster...to think otherwise is racist!), a furry monster obsessed with porn on the Internet. Rod, a republican investment banker, who's confused with his sexuality. Nikky, Rod ...
