Advantages: Complete operetta (musically) with great artists Disadvantages: none
These Naxos re-issues are great and so reasonably priced for anyone who might be wanting to try out some Gilbert and Sullivan before plumping for the complete Decca set recorded during the 50s and 60s. This recording has Martyn Green, Leoard Osborne, Darrell Fancourt, the lovely Margaret Mitchell as Patience and Ella Halman in the contralto role. I am probably of an age that I can remember the end of this D'Oyly Carte era and the beginning of next great one with Valerie Masterson and Donald Adams, so I am lucky to say that I think I have seen the best there possibly could be. However, there is something nostalgic about these recordings and you can tell that the company are on top form. ...
Advantages: Comfortable, small and friendly. Disadvantages: Not in the city centre if you prefer to be where the action is.
We stayed at Sullivans in March 2007, and will be returning in 2009. This is a 3 star hotel and is fairly typical of the standard. It is not an up-market affair, just a comfortable, friendly hotel with lovely views over the river and the city skyline. The location on Mounts Bay Road is convenient for both the city and the surrounding areas, being on the free Blue Cat bus route. The bus stop is right outside the hotel as is the one for the main bus services. Getting to Fremantle and the local beaches is very straightforward as the hotel is on a main road out of the city. Bicycles are available for free to explore, and the freeway is close by. The hotel has a small car park but there is also a chance of parking on the road nearby.
Sullivans is very popular with Australians as well as overseas visitors. The food is good and reasonable ...
Advantages: passes the time Disadvantages: can be boring
Patience I haven?t played this for ages.
Please be patient with me Let me take you back with me about 40 years. I am a young girl who visited her Grandparents.
My grandparents only lived in the thatched cottage next door. My grandparents had a small sitting room, in the sitting room was a piano, a TV, a sofa, a chair and a little stool and some games a solitaire chess, draughts and some cards. When I got bored I would often play cards on my own boohoo no one to play, with so clock patience would often be my choice. Do you know how to play clock patience? No, then let me tell you.
First I would shuffle the cards and then lay my cards (face down) in a circle of 12 to represent a clock face. Then put a card in the centre of the circle. Each pile of cards had 4 cards in it.
I used to play this game on the floor it is easier more ...
