Louis Armstrong
Review of Louis Armstrong by  gill1960

Advantages: The one and only
Disadvantages: none

...I love reggae music, especially Bob Marley, but if I am honest I also like a bit of Jazz, not any old Jazz though, when I say Jazz I mean Louis Armstrong. Louis Armstrong a Jazz musician that will not be forgotten and an act that will never be followed, some Jazz musicians will try and follow in his footsteps but non will succeed, Louis was unique. Who else could have that rough, gravel like voice that could become so famous, that famous smile and the twinkle in his eyes? Louis Armstrong (satchmo) the name he was well known as. Louis was born into a poor family from New Orleans on August 4th 1901. Sent away to a reform school for two years that?s when and where he first learned to play the coronet. After leaving reform school Louis was hired locally as a general dogsbody, but the music was in his bones and he frequently... Read review

Ella And Louis - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
Review of Ella And Louis - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong by  Jakeibanez1234

Advantages: Amazing contrast of voices,
Disadvantages: Some sonic quality is lost due to the age of the recording

...This CD is a brilliant stepping-stone into the Jazz world. The instantly recognisable voice of Louis Armstrong is familiarly heart warming, Louis stood next to the sensational Ella, make a fine pair. The strong vocals are supported by the excellent band, with great instrumental links keeping the listener on the edge of their seat. The intensity and coarseness of Mr. Armstrong's voice compels the audience to wish for the next scat solo or the next parade of incredible human talent that is Louis. Of course the same can be said of the sassy Ms. Fitzgerald who can sustain these high levels of aptitude. I recommend this CD to any budding music fan who wishes to broaden their Musical horizons! HAPPY LISTENING! BY, JAKE HEMMING... Read review

Meet me in St Louis
Review of St. Louis by  MAFARRIMOND

Advantages: Magnificent skyline. Lots to do and see. Wonderful music heritage.
Disadvantages: A number of attractions not wheelchair accessible

...We first approached St Louis at twilight and were immediately charmed by the unusual skylight dominated by The Gateway Arch which was bathed in a warm amber glow. We had driven down from Chicago along Route 66 and were pretty tired so we has little time or energy to explore ? St Louis would have to wait until daylight. ~~What?s in a name~~ First faux-pas of our trip! My pronunciation of St Louis was as in the title of the Judy Garland film and song. Wrong! A local born and bred in St Louis soon corrected me. The English pronunciation is lu-is. Lu-ee is the French pronunciation little used within the city. St Louis is named after King Louis IX of France ? the only French king that was made into a saint. The city was founded by French explorers, Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette in 1673. Saint Louis is often known as the Gateway City... Read review
