...in "Oh my god, thats damn funkeh." For funky this album is. 'Just Like Lightening' is a perfect example of this.
Its difficult to write a review on something thats so diverse in its sound and genre. I can only compare it to his previous albums, and thats no good. It just doesnt do it justice.

This is Joe Satriani's tenth studio album, recorded at Studio 21. For those of you that don't know, Satriani is primarily a solo artist, who composes intrumental pieces which he performs on guitar.

The Satch Machine is funk in human form. Seriously. He puts the funk in "Oh my god, thats damn funkeh." For funky this album is. 'Just Like Lightening' is a perfect example of this.

I wouldn't go as far to say that Satriani has brough any new cards to the table here, so to speak. Although the music itself stands out individually, solo guitarists like Satch, Steve Vai and the like, are all out to discover new ways of producing new and innovative sounds from their instruments. Im not sure that Satch has done it with this album. But that is no cause for complaint. He's given his fans more of the good stuff.
The track 'Super Colossal' is probably one of my favourite Satch songs now. Its so damn catchy.
All I can really say to existing fans is that you should own this album. It won't disappoint you, I'm sure of that.
For those who don't know what Satriani is all about, I will do my best to describe it for you:

Funk.

Ok, so yeah, I'll say again that this is purely an instrumental album. There are no lyrics, so if you're looking for something to sing along to, this is not it. If, however, you're looking for something to play guitar along to, then cool, I'd very much like to hear how you compare to this guy. Instrumental wise, there is something for all, whether you like fast-paced shredding, or slow melodical playing, its all here.
I should finally say that if you like this album, you should definately give his other ones a listen. Its all good.
