The music combines the sheer brilliance of Santana with a new sound of the millenium. It is by far the best album he has created and that is shown by the 9 gramy's he won for creating it. I would reccommend this to all who enjoys good mellow guitar music. Thanks, Matt
Advantages: Diversity and talent Disadvantages: Not to everyone's tastes
This is an album by somebody that can play! Yes a real live musician, no samples etc. The album has great latin rythms and some scorching tracks and the best thing about it is the diversity. Santana duets with great artists and his guitar playing is amazing.
Some tracks rock, like smooth and others are a more chilled Latin flavour. It is a great album and different from most things that you will hear in mainstream, UK music.
All the tracks are ...

Advantages: Great tracks and guest stars Disadvantages: specific music taste required on the whole
Supernatural is the 1999 album from the Mexican Latin sensation Carlos Santana. It is said that this album kickstarted his career after a faltering from the guitar supremo in the mid-1990s. It is a magnificent collection of music with Latin and Cuban themes, and incorporates the musical talents of modern genius minds such as Wyclef Jean, Eric Clapton and Eagle-Eye Cherry. Track 5 'Smooth', featuring the vocal talents of Matchbox Twenty lead singer ... ...has gone 15 times platinum, and has won 9 Grammy awards.
I really like this album, particularly Everlast's invlovement in track 2, 'Put Your Lights On'. It is of a specific Latin/Cuban style, though, and will thus will only appeal to an audience favouring this style.
These are the tracks:
1. (Da Le) Taleo
2. Love Of My Life (featuring Dave Matthews)
3. Put Your Lights On (featuring Everlast)
4. Africa Bamba
5. Smooth (featuring Rob Thomas)

Advantages: Smooth Disadvantages: Apart from a couple of songs, it does nothing for me
Last year Carlos Santana experienced a real resurgence, and everyone was raving about the "Supernatural" album. It won Grammy awards, and lots of other kinds of awards. I personally was very taken by the single "Smooth", which I thought was brilliant - a kind shuffle with a distinctive vocal (sort of Robert Palmer meets Robbie Robertson), which basically makes me feel like I should be sitting at a poolside drinking tequila.
But then… I heard the ... ...problem with it.
First of all, one look at all the collaborators (Eric Clapton, Eagle Eye Cherry, Lauryn Hill and others), it smacks of someone trying to revive an ailing career - you know, the old stalwarts who are always helping out old friends, and one or two trendy stars - it's all designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.
The album includes a couple of tracks - the opening track "(Da le) Yaleo" and the slowie "El Farol", that ...

Advantages: Carlos back to form with super collaboration album Disadvantages: A couple of weaker tracks
...Santana chose his collaborations for Supernatural very well. In particular the track Maria Maria’ with Wyclif Jean blends the best of both artistes. Smooth’ and Migra’ also stand out, the latter having almost an Irish-Black-dance feel to it.
Can I find any cause for criticism ? only that sometimes there is a feel that one or two of the guitar solos are a little contrived within a song and exist as an add-on rather than are integrated within the ...

Advantages: Good quality guitar playing with superb vocals Disadvantages:
This was the first album by Carlos Santana I bought and I have to admit I found it very addictive. I found that the best two songs on the album are 'Smooth' which features Rob Thomas and 'Maria Maria' which features Wyclef Jean and Jerry Duplessias. 'Smooth' was the first single to be released from the album which spent a long time in the UK charts this year. 'Maria Maria' is the latest single to be released from the album and has a larger emphasis ... ...which also includes vocals from Dave Matthews, Lauryn Hill, Mana, Eagle Eye Cherry and the superb Eric Clapton.
I bought this CD for £9.99 which is outstanding value for a top album which has won variuous music awards. A good quality album for anyone looking to buy a new CD. ...

Advantages: Great sound, value for money, major hits, suits every kind of mood/atmosphere, stunning art work, Disadvantages: depending on taste-- lyrics in spanish-- otherwise none what so ever
Any person who appreciates a high standard of music with a fuller sound and extremely talented musicians is going to love Santana. And with this package you get his two most influential and inspirational albums. Carlos Santana changed the world of Latin American Rock with his own unique playing style which was first really appreciated in Woodstock' 69.
The album Santana - Santana--- released in the later summer of 1969 was his first Album and confirmed his unbelievable talent. With the core band in place Gregg Rolie - Keyboards/vocals, David Brown- Bass, Mike Shrieve- Drums and Jose Areas and Mark Carabello - Percussion --- Santana began his (and it's) walk along the path to history.
Santana - Abraxas--- was released in september 1970 following the bands previous sucess with their recording in 1969. This album featured some new faces ...
In my opinion this is one of the best songs on Santana's supernatural album. Produced by ex-fugee star Wyclef Jean, this single had all the makings to become a hit record and it has done. This is one of the songs on the album which has a more R'n'B flavour to it, but at the same time it still shows off Carlos Santana's amazing guitar skills. The vocals on this track are great as well. This is a smooth sounding summery song and is definitely worth spending a few minutes to listen to, I love it. This single is a must buy for any fan of Santana and hopefully will grab the attention of people who don't necessarily like Santana music but are fans of R'n'B. I think this track is definitely worth getting the album for. ...
Advantages: Rarity value and a great rendition of All Along the Watchtower Disadvantages: Availability can be a problem, as is price!
Matthews Band are quite possibly the most eclectic group around. They fuse African rhythms with a jazz/pop mix as well as anything else they come across that they like. This has led to the inclusion of a cajun feel on some of their tracks, whilst this CD seems to nod more towards Spanish/Latin influences. (A tradition continued in later work, including a duet with Carlos Santana on Supernatural).
As with Remember Two Things, many of these songs were recorded live, and the audience's appreciation seeps through.
Track Listing:
Recently - New true love. A really nice song about the beginnings of being in love, and the sense of certainty that brings.
Dancing Nancies - One of their most popular early songs, this time in a great acoustic style (see above). A definite winner.
Warehouse - Another odd release, which seems primarily ...

"El Farol" won the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Fans old and new have much to celebrate about SUPERNATURAL, Carlos Santana's Arista Records debut. After several years of quiet in the studio, Santana is joined by his seasoned contemporary Eric Clapton and by such young luminaries as Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Rob Thomas, and Fher (of famed Mexi-rockers Mana). As an album that caps a rock career spanning more than three decades, SUPERNATURAL is a testament to the stylistic breadth of Carlos' musical world, to his dynamic communicative abilities, and to the fact that rolling stones truly gather no moss. The man continues to make a guitar wail like no other. To the sound of punchy horns, Rodney Holmes' double-bass drum kick, and of course, Santana's searing string-bending, "Yaleo" tears it up with abandon. "Migra" is another signature Santana 'Latin rock' piece with a pulsing Bo Diddley beat and a strong message about the U.S. immigration officers' harassment of Latinos. "Love Of My Life" is a sultry number with Matthews pouring sweetness all over the microphone, while "Do You Like The Way" features Hill dropping the light of her wisdom to slow, rough beats.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (7/8-22, p.144) - 3 1/2 Stars (out of 5) - "...Eclectic, lively and only occasionally goofy, SUPERNATURAL offers a glossy but winning context of musical fusion that highlights Santana's unique ability to make that guitar of his cry expressively..." CMJ (1/10/00, p.23) - Included in CMJ's "Triple A '99 Top 5" - "...proves in 1999 that veteran rockers don't have to burn out or fade away....utilizing his unique salsa-blues-rock approach..." Entertainment Weekly (6/18/99, p.79) - "...Whether he's spraying lyrical notes over a soulful Lauryn Hill composition, trading molten licks with Clapton, or playing spacey blues with Everlast, Santana still has that old 'Black Magic Woman' thing goin' on..." - Rating: B+ Mojo (9/99, p.103) - "...easily the best place to hear this pleasantly inconsequential noise would be at a barbecue on a hot summer night, especially if you didn't want to disturb the neighbors."
