It is quite amazing how a band like the pixies actually managed to become so popular and influential. I mean, there music is most certainly not everyone's cup of tea. When people talk about how heavy bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden are, you can be sure they haven't heard the Pixies. We have Black Francis, screaming, often in Spanish, Kim Deal, we her simple, melodic bass lines and whining backup vocals, and Joey Santiago's screeching insane guitar licks. The highlights of Surfer Rosa are certainly the melodic Where is my Mind?, Gigantic, with Deal on lead vocals, River Euphrates, Break my Body with its beautiful chorus and the insane Vamos, with Spanish singing and Joey's most insane guitar ever. I highly recommend this cd for anyone with a bit of balls!
