Advantages: PHENOMENAL sound quality, good mixture of those ladies vocal talents, CD TEXT present Disadvantages: It isn't availble everywhere!
You will have to bear with me on this one as I'm not normally a music reviewer or an R&B fan but here goes.
I purchased this CD because of the format -a Hybrid SACD which I know gives incredible sound quality compared with a standard version, the fact that I'd heard a couple of the tracks previously such as the Title track and 'Independent Women'. I also obtained it at the princely sum of £9.99 from a small indie dealer called Swordfish ... ...in the dark for me but I was very keen to find out just how good it sounded. So I popped along to Sevenoaks in Birmingham as I'm a personal friend of the Manager and he let me audition it on a £36K system...
Before this Destiny's Child weren't my cup of tea...
Well I always wondered what all the fuss was about with SACD and Destiny's Childand now I've stopped wondering.

I also obtained it at the princely sum of £9.99 from a small indie dealer called Swordfish Records in Temple St Birmingham. Now this was a shot in the dark for me but I was very keen to find out just how good it sounded.
The track list is as follows:
INDEPENDENT WOMEN PART 1-A good opener with a nice tight bass line and crystal clear vocals. Theme for the film version of "Charlies Angles".
SURVIVOR- Stirring opening with orchestral synth and crystal clear vocals. Again a nice tight arrangement.
BOOTYLICIOUS-AS GOOD AS SEX WITH BEYONCE-well almost An absolutly awsome track with a fantastic vocal range delivered to perfection. On this system I could hear every little gasp, grunt and moan-cheeky and suggestive.Aural sex no less!
NASTY GIRL-Quietens down with a tale about a loose lady and how she should calm down. Bit of duality there ladies-or is it just yourselves who should wear little and move a lot?
FANCY-I thought of 'One Vision' by Queen when I first heard it (LOL!) Bit of a tussle going on with a two-faced friend being scolded.
APPLE PIE A LA MONDE-Talk about an ideal man, lovely tight bass line and perfectly balanced harmonies. i'm sorry but I can't sing along to this unless I was gay ( no offence to gays...).
SEXY DADDY-A nice chant to start off, again beautiful soraing melodies.Changes pace but you'll never know.
INDEPENDENT WOMEN PART II-continuation of the opening track again lovely clear vocals, slow pace and a good thumping bass.
HAPPY FACE-A most unexpected gem-lovely synth orchestra start ans fantastic lead and harmonious vocals. Another tight bass and a faster pace. If you feel down often these days like me, listen to this! I promise it will cheer you up no end!
EMOTION-A cover of a BeeGees number largely acoustic and a much slower pace. Shows another sides of these ladies talents.
DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE-slower pace and a lovely acoustic set
BROWN EYES-A slow love song about that ideal man-and a ladies first love.
THE STORY OF BEAUTY-a pleasant number for a hurt female treated bad, but with encouragment for a better future.
GOSPEL MEDLEY-If anything could demonstate the ladies wonderful vocal talents-lovely gospel music, crystal clear vocals , perfect harmonies and beautifully tranquil. Christians and non Christians alike should listen to it. If the message doesn't appeal then just admire this vocal art.
OUTRO (DC-3) THANK YOU. More dance orientated, techno feel and the ladies thanking each other-and so they should. Even a bit of rapping here...
EMOTION (THE NEPTUNES REMIX)-far heavier dance orientated flavour which bears little resemblance to the original. Definitly different.
So there you have it but what about the sound? Absolutly AWESOME-so clear and sharp it will make your eyes water. This is on all three formats ie 5.1 surround, SACD Stereo (2 speaker) and conventional CD (with DSD-Direct Stream Digital-processing.A techniqure which extracts more information out of the master tape giving a clearer sound). Now admittedly I'd auditioned this on a very esoteric system and could hear everything crystal clear but the quality is discenable even on quite basic equipment so those of you worried about Hybrid SACD's shouldn't.It even sounds awesome on my Sony EJ-2000 Cd Discman (used that to play it as I did this review)Plus of couse if you do upgrade to a SACD sytem you will have an eye wateringly clear surround sound experience.
Even if you are not so much of an R&B fan, I promise you if a heavy rocker like me can appreciate it then anyone can.
Oh and I almost forgot, Destiny's Child are simply an outstanding act which has reached me after almost ten years in the Peterkin wilderness-I'm converted!
Don't beat about the bush...or wait as long as I did.

Album Notes
This is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Destiny's Child: Beyonce, Kelly, Michelle. Producers: Beyonce Knowles, Walter Afanasieff. Engineers include: Brian Springer, James Hoover, Dan Workman. "Survivor" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. The '70s had Helen Reddy declaring "I am Woman" and Gloria Gaynor vowing "I Will Survive." Two-and-a-half decades down the road, female empowerment is finding its pop music voice in the self-empowerment anthems of Destiny's Child. On SURVIVOR, the pop-R&B trio uses such songs as "Independent Women Part I" (previously heard on the CHARLIE'S ANGELS soundtrack) and the title tune as vehicles for their own statements of gender independence. Seldom has the women's-lib aesthetic been applied to grooves this sultry. Despite all the social statements, DC isn't above diving into more salacious waters, like "Bootylicious," where the ladies assess their own desirability over a sample from Stevie Nicks's '80s hit "Edge of Seventeen." On "Nasty Girls," trashy women receive a verbal dressing-down, but more spiritual matters are addressed in the closing "Gospel Medley," which finds Destiny's Child offering harmonious thanks to the Lord.
Album Reviews
NME (12/29/01, p.59) - Ranked #15 in NME's 50 "Albums Of the Year 2001". Rolling Stone (5/10/01, pp.83-4) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...Fluid R&B harmonies, exotic techno beats and more floss than the American Dental Association....SURVIVOR confirms their reign as the princesses of pop....packed with enough hits to keep the show rolling." Spin (7/01, pp.125-6) - 9 out of 10 - "...Every gesture dances along [with a] platinum pop irreconcilability....Relentlessly inventive in its recombinations. The beats are just a tinge twisted for teen pop....[They] are the soul of the new machine..." Q (7/01, p.108) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Sassy..." Vibe (6/01, pp.151-2) - 3 discs out of 5 - "...Beyonce's always been a capable singer, and she's grown even more so on SURVIVOR....the album concerns itself with what the girls have always been about: making it, shaking it, and heartbreaking it..." Entertainment Weekly (5/11/01, pp.77-8) - "...They are in the take-charge phase of their career...there is much musical meat on [the album's] bones....but from leader Beyonce Knowles' creative input to the dominance of her Mariah-style trills, SURVIVOR is very much her work..." - Rating: B+ Mojo (6/01, p.116) - "...An impeccable fusion of classic soul virtues withmachine-tooled modernity..."
