Swamp Music Vol.1 (Flames Of Hell - Best Of Cajun & Zydeco Tradition) - Various Artists

Advantages: A truly great CD
Disadvantages: None whatsoever!

...of these are well-represented on this CD. The two-step and the waltz. Although rooted very firmly in European (well, French, mainly) folk music traditions, Cajun music has absorbed many other musical influences. Bluegrass, swing, country and western, jazz, the blues and rock an roll. A really charming example of such a song is French Fiddle Boogie by Joe Bonsal and the Orange Playboys. It is a Cajun, blues, rock boogie crossover. It is sung in Cajun French with the odd: "Let's Go Baby!" and "Oh, yeah!" The sleeve notes by John Broven are amongst some of the best and most informative I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I recall paying about £5.00 for this CD in a sale. Advantages: Contains classic artists such as Odyssey, Brothers Johnson and Diana Ross
Disadvantages: Is a populist take on the disco era.

...This album is a broad yet typical retrospective of the commercial side of the disco era. Staples of the disco scene such as Chic and Earth, Wind & Fire feature here, yet in their most famous incarnations as opposed to the music that changed the face of the dance underground forever. There are rare stand out moments such as the highlighted Brothers Johnson classic 'Stomp' and Diana Ross's Chic penned athem 'Upside Down' however, overall this album is a good album for those that think of disco as a Car Wash style flares and afro 'Good Times' party. It's not for the connoisseurs of disco for whom any one of the Larry Levan or Joey Negro compilations would be better suited.... Read review

Advantages: A good mix of songs
Disadvantages: Doesnt help you get through the housework

...A cd thats a couple of years old now but still fun to listen to. I mean this cd says its meant to help you through the housework but I personally dont think it really does,if anything it distracts you,because you just start singing along to all the great tracks this album has to offer, you get caught up in the music and completely lose track of what you were doing - maybe a good thing in a way :-) Housework vol 1 is a double album that has some cracking songs that you just dont seem to hear on the radio anymore such as The Beach Boys - Help Me Rhonda and Don McLeans - American Pie. The songs on this album just make you feel good and really help to lift your spirits,but I honestly think its marketed wrong,this is a feel good album for anyone just not people doing the housework.I dont think the title of the album really represents...
