But Feeder aren't the first up-and-coming band to wear their influences on their sleeves, and besides, by the end of their run, the Smashing Pumpkins didn't have half of the energy or exuberance exhibited onSwim. Granted, "Sweet 16" lyrically comes across as the indie-rock version of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun", but its riff is undeniably catchy, which could be said of most of the songs here. Sure,Swimsounds derivative, but when they first released this mini-album, back in 1996, Feeder were still a young band trying to develop their own sound. The album is quite different to Feeder's later work, with many of the songs being within the metal genre rather than Feeder's distinct pop rock sound. Sweet 16, the opener, is a strong guitar, driven track, and along with the Descend, is one of the album's highlights.
