Advantages: Changed the sound of music in the seventies Disadvantages: Died young so where would the music have gone if he lived?

Marc Bolan died in a car that crashed while his girlfriend was driving home from a night out. I am a couple of days late writing this review because I have been away but wanted to write something to mark his passing from this world because I believe he had a hand in changing the way pop music went during the ‘70’s and 80’s. His girlfriend Gloria Jones, who had been drinking moderately during the evening, drove the car. She returned to America after she recovered from the accident and although summonsed on a charge of driving while unfit she never returned to England to face the charge. This means that a young man who had a lot to live for and a lot of music to make died and no one paid for his death. Shortly after he died fans of Marc Bolan broke into his home and stole most of his possessions. How sad for his family and friends to have this done.
My first memory of T Rex then called Tyrannosaurus Rex was early in the 1970’s when a friend and I used to regularly go dancing. There we were, sweet sixteen, although I wouldn’t say never been kissed, in our hot pants, our high heels, catching the bus to the nearest town to dance the night away.
There were many songs but one of my favourite, which was played over and over, was Ride a White Swan, something completely different, with undertones of love and lust.
Teenagers all over, wearing satin and sequins to dances and gigs copied the music and dress of this musician. The look became famous for being part of what the early seventies were all about for those of us who grew up in this era.
The following year I got married and stopped going dancing, but still played music at home. Following Ride a White Swan came Hot Love, Telegram Sam, Get it on, Children of the Revolution, I love to Boogie and Jeepster. I can’t remember the order of release but all of this music got my feet tapping and my hips (such as they were) swaying. Marc Bolan was a musician before his time. Marc Bolan was the first rock musician that I saw on television to wear glitter on his face, coupled with darkly made up eyes, a mass of long dark curly hair and a stick like body. Tall and slim and very beautiful I think a lot of teenage girls fell in love with him.
I have listened to Marc’s albums on and off for thirty years now and this music can still get me up off a chair and swaying away.
Some of the tracks are a lot deeper than I first thought; one I especially love is called Girl. The chorus tells all: Oh God, high in your fields above us Come and be real for us You with your mind Oh yes your are… Beautifully fine.
Oh Girl, Electric witch you are Limp, in society’s ditch You are Physically fine But mentally dying
And more,…..
Marc became ashamed by the Clam Rock scene, he ventured into the world of American soul. This didn’t work with the American teenage audiences and by the mid seventies he came home. He took on board the new Punk Rock wave although kept his image very much the same as it always was with the individual sound full of rhythm and danceability.
The Damned joined him on tour and Siouxsie and the Banshees performed “20th Century Boy” in concert. Marc was set for a new lease of life and I believe his music style would have gone from strength to strength had he lived. At last, it seemed that the world had caught up with Marcs music. So, it was a very sad day for music the day Marc Bolan died, leaving a gap in the pop music scene. This was quickly filled of course as it always is when one artist dies but give a thought to this young man who had everything going for him when his life was cut off.
This is a fairly short piece, there are reviews aplenty about the music of this man, I just wanted to tell a bit about why we rarely hear of him today even though there are loads of aging rock stars out there still singing away.
Thanks for reading this, and spare a thought for the young man who was lost to this world even if you didn’t know or enjoy his music.
Advantages: great tunes Disadvantages: dated glam rock sound
t rex were a great band at a sort of change in music. It is glam rock and it sounds well dated now and the videos I mean like old top of the pops footage looks riddiculous, The famous songs are Get it on which had a brilliant rythem which was beefed up by oasis a few years ago. the lyrics are very weak though in that particular song but quite prophetic in others like children of the revolution. There are loads of songs that everyone has heard but ...

This album has become a classic, being released back in 1972 it is another example of music that stands the test of time.
Some call it glam rock others pop or indeed rock. Whatever title it is given this is music at its purest form, the album has so much to offer the listener, the tracks offer a diverse range of sounds, from slow ballads through to upbeat tempos.
The Slider saw TRex at its peak, it followed another classic album called Electric Warrior and a lot of people doubted that this album could be as good. For me The Slider is the best album that was ever released by TRex.
TRex was a band fronted by Marc Bolan (whose life was tragically cut short in a car crash two weeks before his thirtieth birthday) As with a lot of bands in the seventies they undertook changes and evolved. To a lot of people TRex and Marc Bolan were ...

every child the chance to dance" and " Deep in my heart there is a house that can hold just about all of you"
So when my son gave me the Born to Boogie DVD along with a bottle of Bacardi and some mints, I reckoned it was time for a few drinks and a little nostalgia. If you hear a few sniffles or sobs don't worry I'll be happy.
The DVD comes in a white box with a silhouette of Marc sitting on a tiger in its centre. Above this are the rather large diamond studded letters of T. REX and above this in red letters Marc Bolan. Underneath the silhouette is the DVD title Born to Boogie. At the very bottom are a few of the stars on the DVD namely, T.Rex, Marc Bolan, Ringo Starr and Elton John. On the back of the box is a list of Scenes and things you can expect to find on the DVD.
Inside is an information booklet and two DVD's.

Advantages: Original Disadvantages: Not for the easily offended
The Golden Age of Grotesque is the fifth studio album (full length) released by the self professed Antichrist Superstar. Coming nearly three years after the superb Holywood it was eagerly awaited and whilst die hard Marilyn Manson fans loved it, it received mixed reviews (see end of review for some of them).
Although this isn't Manson's best offering it's still good and packs originality and punch. Influenced by a wide variety of sources, including Weimar Berlin (circa 1930!). You can't help but hear echoes of Marc Bolan and T-Rex and Nine Inch Nails - Marilyn Manson was signed by Trent Reznor, the NIN frontman. Fans of T-Rex and NIN will either love this CD or balk at the idea that Manson is in someway trying to emulate their sound.
What is the Marilyn Manson sound? For those who've never heard any of their music, it's a dark ...
