Studying History at the UEA in Norwich, spend much time dotting back and forth from charming Norfolk and slightly less charming hometown of Peterborough. 21, and loving not having responsibility!

I was introduced to Garth Brooks at a young age, and despite having the likes of Nirvana and Guns n Roses frequently in my CD player, country music found a place in my heart and in my CD rack. Dixie Chicks have since been a favourite of mine, and Wide Open Spaces, and Fly never fail to come out every year as soon as I spot a bit of sunshine. I was eagerly awaiting their latest album Taking the Long Way, and bought it as soon as it came out last year. I was not disappointed. I consider all of their previous albums as some of the best in my collection, but their latest effort beats them all. This album has been in almost constant play on my i-pod since i got it.
The first track after which the album is titled, is an up-tempo feel good tune, and my personal favourite on the album. The following songs 'easy silence' and 'not ready to make nice' are slower and typical of rainy day country music, and reminiscent of their older ballads such as 'cold day in july' .
There isn't a single song on this album that i have to skip over, every track is at least catchy and decent.
The Dixie Chicks have been criticised on this album for getting away from their country roots, and while this may be slightly true, i do not judge it to be a negative point. My boyfriend who has always proclaimed himself to be strongly anti-country has even been caught singing along, and i think this can be attributed to the mild incorporation of other genres. The tracks on this album are more user-friendly to a wider audience but it is by no means a sell-out pop album. This is clearly a country album and a strong country feel is evident on every track.
Any fan of country music MUST have this album! The lyrics are relevant, the tunes catchy, and the songs just never get old. I sense it will remain at the top of my playlist for a long time to come.
