Corners, Ireland's Corrs await the hit that will break them wide open in America. To that end, the group (who've earned a Rolling Stones openers slot) has issued a retooled version of its sophomore set, featuring five songs recast by some of Europe's hottest mixmasters, including K-Klass ("So Young"), Tin Tin ("What Can I Do?" and "Runaway," the latter song being from the group's debut), and "Dreams" (the Stevie Nicks song, remixed by Todd Terry, who turned Everything but the Girl's "Missing" into a smash). The new mixes for the most part aren't radical departures from the originals but strip away some elements, and add some spit and polish to others. "Dreams" is notable for taking the song even harder toward the dance floor without losing its appealing Celtic edge. The rest of the album is the same as the original version of Talk on Corners minus a few tracks, but still including their lovely version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." --Daniel Durchholz

The Corrs - Talk on Corners
The Corrs are a band who hail from Ireland. They are made up of four siblings, Jim and his three sisters, Andrea, Sharon and Caroline. I think they have a really unique sound with beautiful beautiful voices. I would describe their music and folk based with lots of meaningful lyrics. They also have quite an Irish based sound as well, on a lot of their songs there is a background Irish rythm which is what I think makes them quite a different type of mainstream band.
What I also love about them is that they all can actually play instruments and to me that is a sing of a true musician and band. They include a lot of different sounds in their songs and I really think this adds depth. For example, some of the instruments they play include the tin whistle, violin, drums, guitar and keyboard. I think it also helps that they are all very good looking. The sisters all look similar with beautiful dark hair and this definitely adds to their success in my opinion.
The Corrs first came onto the scene in 1996. They are actually taking a career break at the moment but I believe one of the sisters (can't remember if it's Sharon or Caroline) has just released a solo album. The first album of theirs that I really got into was Talk on Corners which today is still my favourite album of theirs. They have in total released 5 different albums.
Talk on Corners is their second album and was released in 1997. According to an article I read, Talk on Corners became the UK's #1 selling album in 1998 and eventually went on to sell 2.7 million, making it one of the best selling albums of all time (in the UK). It also tops charts in at least another 17 countries.
I would say probably some of the most recognised song on this album is, "What can I do to Make you love me," as I still hear this being played on the radio all the time. They do a nice cover of Fleetwood Mac's Dreams too but in my opinion is still not as good as the original. This album has quite a lot of love songs on it. The tracks are as follows:
"Only When I Sleep" "When He's Not Around" "Dreams" "What Can I Do (To Make You Love Me)" "I Never Loved You Anyway" "So Young" "Don't Say You Love Me" "Love Gives Love Takes" "Hopelessly Addicted" "Paddy McCarthy" "Intimacy" "Queen of Hollywood" "No Good for Me" "Little Wing"
Advantages: Good throughout Disadvantages: Maybe to pop orientated for some tastes
The album Talk on Corners is truly amazing!TheCorrs have come up trumps with this offering of musical wizardrey. Such tracks as "Queen of Hollywood" & "I never really love you anyway" are brilliant and some of the best I have heard in a long time. The album is made up of catchy tunes and breathtaking lyrics which really make you float away. I have listened to this album over and over again and I never get tired of it, infact, it seems to just get better and better! I would recommend this album to those who are already fans of The Corrs but also to those who have never heard any of thier material as this is a type of music nearly everyone will enjoy, and continue to enjoy for a long time to come! I take my hat off to the Irish songsters as they have really out done themselves with this musical offering. ...
Advantages: Pleasant enough, hum-along back ground music Disadvantages: Too many styles, not all of which complement one another
About two years ago The Corrs' "Talk on Corners" was always being played in the house (not by me, although I didn’t mind hearing it), and the singles, “What can I do” especially, seemed to be on the radio non stop at the time. A definite case of overexposure, for me in any case, and I have tried my best to avoid the Corrs' music since then because of it.
Two years on, I put this CD on of my own volition, to see how I really feel about it. I never hated it, or anything, just got to the stage where I could only think of it as background music, something I didn't want to spend any effort on to get to like.
Som, anyway, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by some of the tracks.
“No good for me”, for example, is a song that I hardly noticed at the time the album was first released, it passed me ...
Advantages: great tracks, voices and instruments Disadvantages: none
Introduction
*************
The Corrs, consisting of Irish brother and sisters, Jim, Andrea, Sharon and Caroline Corr had been around for a few years before their fame really took off. It wasn’t until “Dreams” was released or re-released should I say with the tin tin out remix that things started looking up for them. When The album “Talk on Corners” was released, it was a sure fire hit and was one of the biggest selling albums of 1998. It was in the album charts for many weeks and also stayed as well as moved back up to number one on a few occasions.
The Album Tracks
*****************
The opening track “Only When I Sleep” is one of my favourite tracks on the album and it gets off to a good start. It begins with a nice guitar intro along with a drum section from Caroline. Andrea then enters ...

Album Notes
This special edition of TALK ON CORNERS features several remixes and tracks previously not included on the album. The Corrs: Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Jim Corr (guitar, accordion, keyboards, programming); Sharon Corr (violin, background vocals); Caroline Corr (drums, bodhran, background vocals). Additional personnel includes: The Chieftans, Paddy Moloney, David Foster.
Producers: David Foster, Oliver Leiber, Jim Corr, Glen Ballard, John Hughes. Recorded at The Bunker, Wrexham, Wales. The Corr family's music hit big in Europe before making it's way to America, so the U.S. label folks had a little time to prepare something special for the American release of TALK ON CORNERS. Consequently, the U.S. edition of the album contains songs not included on the original European album, as well as additional remixes of some of the tunes. The Corrs' mixture of contemporary pop with traditional Irish influences is certain to appeal to audiences in both camps. Any album that features guest appearances from both David Foster and the Chieftains is bound to have some serious cross-market appeal. The Corr siblings are no instrumental slouches either, and their tasty contributions on traditional pop/rock instruments (as well as tin whistle, bodhran, etc.) are the foundation of the genre-defying construct that is TALK ON CORNERS.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (1/4/99, pp. 94-95) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...this is a high flying reintroduction to some blue chip popsters..." Q (9/99, p.137) - Included in Q Magazine's Best Happy Albums of All Time - "...overall the mood is one of springlike amiability."
