The Verve at their best.
Review of Urban Hymns - The Verve by mattbarnes

Advantages: Sonnet
Disadvantages: a bit too long

...Urban Hymns By The Verve was released in 1997 on HUT records and got media acclaim right along the board. It is probably one of the best albums of the 90’s with a very indie sound. Songs like ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ have become classics in there own write. Apart form those tracks there are also other great songs such as ‘Catching The Butterfly’ and my favourite song on the album ‘Sonnet’ this song contains classic Verve and lyrical genius. This is Richard Ashcroft’s masterpiece and what ever he does as a solo artist he will never beat this.... Read review

what a shame to see them go
Review of Urban Hymns - The Verve by mintboy

Advantages: Great album
Disadvantages: No longer together

...Anyone who hasn't got a copy of Urban Hyms should really consider buying it immediately. This is one of the best albums of the 90's, contaning some of the most memorable songs from the decade. Although since the Verve split up, Richard Ashcroft has embarked on a solo career, and his new material is of exceptional qulity. Howvcer, it still is poor in comprison witht the anthems that the Verve produced which came close to rivalling oasis for truely memorably tunes. Its just a real shame that the verve split up before they had the chance tpo become big in other countires, not just in Britian.... Read review

Brrilliant Album...
Review of Urban Hymns - Verve (The) by colin16

Advantages: loads of great music
Disadvantages: none

...This great album from The Verve must be one of the best albums ever created, although the verve have split they still sell many copies of their singles and their album in music stores today. This album has most of The Verves greatest ever achievements with songs like 'Luckyman', 'The Drugs Dont Work', 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' and my personal favourite 'Sonnet'. Their music is the most relaxing music around and i could listen to the album on repeat for hours, I cant say the same for many other albums. Since the band split a couple of years back Richard Ashcroft (the lead singer) has went on to produce many great singles of his own and has still maintained the standards set by his earlier band 'The Verve'. I can honestly recommend this album to anybody. I hhope this has been of help to you, thanx.... Read review
