Advantages: Its polished 'cool' pop Disadvantages: Few weaker tracks!

I meant to do this review ages ago when the album came out, but it didn't appear on ciao for a while (why is Girls Aloud's 'Chemistry' still not reviewable - its genius) so now am doing it. A lot has changed in the time 'Push The Button' was a massive number one, 'Ugly' has been a real chart success staying in the top 40 for weeks and weeks and Mutya has quit! Now the girls (with new member Amelle Barometer - can never spell her surname) are about to release the stonking 'Red Dress'. So on their fourth album, and now in their third line up, is 'Taller In More Ways' the album we now expect from the UK's coolest (and moodiest) girl bands?
'Push The Button' was the first release and Sugababes 4th number one, so naturally it's the perfect opener to the album. I have to admit when I first heard this I thought it was dire. I didn't like the deep humming and thought it was too simple sounding. It's snuck up on me and I absolutely love it. Everyone knows the song… if you don't where the hell have you been? "If your ready for me boy then you better push the button and let me know, before I get the wrong idea and go, you're gonna miss the freak that I control" there's even a talky bit by Keisha for good measure in her South London finest! 5/5
The Babes have never gone hard R&B before however, 'Gotta Be You' sees them trying Destiny's Childs material out. I don't hate it, they do it well but I prefer them when they are at their 'cool pop' finest. It's a bit repetitive "it ain't me, it ain't me, it ain't me, its gotta be you, be you, be you" hmmm! I do love all their vocals on this song and I think Heidi is getting better and better. 4/5
Now I think they should have released 'Follow Me Home' instead of Ugly personally. When the Sugababes do ballads they do sweeping classy ballads like 'Caught In A Moment', 'Too Lost In You' and 'Stronger' and this song s along those lines. "So follow me home, you'll never be lost, we'll weather the storm, whatever the cost, I won't walk away, I'll stand by your side, I'm here for you the rest of our lives" they do haunting so well and with is sweeping strings and harmonies this is just spectacular. 5/5
I love 'Joy Division' it has a real reggae feel. However "I ain't just some piece of meat sitting in a delicatessen' has to be one of the most random lyrics I have heard. Yet again for me Heidi's vocals are the best on this track, she's quite hypnotic. "Boy do I turn you round, when I turn you down, boy isn't this profound, I know I turn you on, you'll never be the one, so why you hanging on." It's just about a boy who is a bit of a looser really. I just love the harmonies and beat and everything. 5/5
New single (which does sound different with Amelle) 'Red Dress' is a stand out pure pop belter. This is the Sugababes we know and love, they can never go wrong with a few trumpets. Keisha shines on here with her mega 'whooooaaah's'. Naturally like all the best pop songs it makes no sense but who cares? "Turned on candle lights to make you stay over, I'm giving it up now baby, if that's what I gotta do just to own ya, I'm giving it up now baby." Yes quite! 6/5
I'm not a massive fan of 'Ugly' I know that the whole of England is but to me it's a really cheap version of Christina's 'Beautiful' or TLC's 'Unpretty'. Even Mutya hated it (she slagged it at TOTP)! I can see its appeal it's a very radio friendly middle of the road number one about self-love. "People are all the same and we only get judged by what we do, personality reflects name and if I'm ugly then so are you" but its predictable pop by numbers for me personally. Tough it is growing on me bit by bit but when I first heard it I was really disappointed. 4/5
Next is the vileness of 'It Ain't Easy' a song so rubbish its not worth typing about, FILLER! 1/5
Now 'Bruised' is a really mature ballad of sorts. It's about a hurtful relationship with a bit of a nasty edgy but the song is beautiful. They should release this as its instant catchy and sticks in your head. "I bruise when you get close, feel my body choke, bitter last blows in the war with you, when you get close, feel my body choke so the pain grows in the war with you." It's a brilliant song very touching yet not depressing. 5/5
The have done a cover with 'Obsession' by one hit wonder Animotion in the late 80's. The song stays true to the original in many ways it sounds extremely similar only no men are singing on this track. It's an electro odyssey really there's not a lot you can say about this song other than its great. "You are an obsession, you're my obsession, who do you want me to be to make you sleep with me?" 5/5
Summery reggae again with 'Ace Reject' which is like a not quite as good sister of 'Joy Division' but after the second verse when the chorus actually kicks in. its really quite good. In fact its really really catchy. It's definitely not a single but it's a definite grower. "We break up then make it up, back and fourth we never stop, every time a change of heart, can't keep up, you say yes and I say no, when it turns hot we make it cold, but still something between us holds together". I like this song a lot actually. 5/5
They should have got rid of 'It Ain't Easy' and changed 'Better' to an album track (and single), as it's so good. This is a real summer (and better - oh get the pun) version of Ugly. "This is the start, of falling apart, you have to look it in the face and recognise its you that makes you, right from the start, hand on your heart, you have to look it in the face and recognise its you that make you, stronger in every way, each day a brand new way, I'm their to hear you say I won't believe tomorrow" its very light and summery and just instant and catchy. Excellent! 5/5
Sadly second bonus track '2 Hearts' is a standard dodgy bonus. It's trying to be a good ballad but not quite convincing anyone (even itself) its sparse and doesn't seem to flow. It's all about almost splitting up but you not wanting them to and yet you know they still do. "Two you's, two me's, two minds, two beliefs, two you, two me, two we make totally" etc, etc. It's not pap but it's not their best. 3/5
Well over all bar two (of which only one is a mega dud) of the 12 songs are really not up to scratch. That's more than on 'Three', which had a fair few dud songs. The album deserved its number one status and hopefully with Amelle they will now go on from strength to strength. A wicked album.
Advantages: some great tracks and some songs have a great message to people Disadvantages: some really bad tracks
Sugababes - Taller in More Ways
Sugababes are a successful English pop trio from London. The thing that most sticks out in my mind about this group, is that the members have changed consistently over the years. The band line up for this album was Keisha, Heidi and Mutya. I am going to review each track and give it a rating out of 5, so here goes. 1. Push the Button (3.38) 4/5
This is song which will make you want to dance the beat sounds very computerised. ... ...a dance song and it is very much a pop song! The chorus is very catchy which makes you want to sing along. I think this song gets your attention and it a good one to start the album off with. The song is about getting a boy's attention and he needs to let her know that he likes her.
2. Gotta Be You (3.40) 3/5
A more r'n'b vibe to this song with a low beat playing in the background. It's another song, which you can dance along to and is a song, ...

Advantages: 3 great songs Disadvantages: the rest are mainly fillers
...with Dirty Faces cd. But Taller in More Ways falls into the "Trying too hard to be cool" category. I never really warmed to them as a group. The really ugly one comes across as really arrogant and the black girl cant sing to save her life. She has this really annoying high pitched wailing thing going on and it surprises me how much she gets to sing on this album. Many songs would be vastly improved if she kept her gob shut.
I don't hate this cd ... ...if I had my time over I wouldnt bother buying it.
Push the Button was the first single and I liked this one from the second I first heard it - even though it kept my Robbie off the top spot. Its uptempo, funky and sassy and is one of the best songs that they've done. I also really like Bruised which is about a stormy relationship. I think its the best song on the album and hopefully a future single. Its poppy RnB - think early Christina Milian stuff. ...

Advantages: Different sounds but still the Sugababes! Disadvantages: Some fans may not like the new sounds.
Normally when I listen to an album for the first time it takes me a couple more play throughs of it for it to grasp me, however by the second play of this album I was actually singing along to most of the tracks. I may be biased as I am a fan of the Sugababes' music, however I do feel this album is, although slightly different sounding, a maturer move forward for them. I prefer this album to the others they have made and I do have them all.
There ... ...Push The Button:
Their last single which sent them flying to the top of the charts after a short break for a while. The first time I heard this I was hooked. This track has quite a 'poppy' sound with Heidi's voice taking up most of the verses. It bumps along quite well and leads in to a funky chorus.
2) Gotta Be You:
I have never heard the Sugababes perform this sort of track before as it is very R n B. It sounds absolutely fantastic and has quite ...

Advantages: Great variety whilst also being familiar Disadvantages: Weak track
It is a fair judgment to say that it is a surprise that a girl group can experience the longevity that the career of the Sugababes has experienced. However from this album, their forth, it is clear that this is not a bad thing, whilst most pop groups loose the consistency or opt for covers by even the second album, the Sugababes have successfully delivered an album that is both diverse and original.
Whilst having always been a fan of their work, ... ...is an easy album to listen to with tracks such as Ugly and Obsession but also has those upbeat songs which grow on you every time you listen to them, such as the hugely popular Push the Button, Red Dress and Bruised. They also entail sensitive lyrics in songs such as Ugly and Follow me home, offering the softer and more vulnerable side of the group, which helps to give this album sincerity and life.
The album also has that familiar and unique Sugababes ...

Advantages: A couple of good songs Disadvantages: Nothing you haven't heard before
Some very catchy songs, some ok ones, and ones that should simply be skipped. If you don't particularly like pop this album isn't for you. The Sugababes haven't really come up with anything that wouldn't be expected of them. The album starts off quite well with the first 3 songs Push The Button, Gotta Be You, Follow Me Home being in a different league to the other tracks.
1. Push The Button - The album starts off well with this track, which was ... ...sing along with. Typical of the Sugababes.
2. Gotta Be You - Really good track. Has a grittier edge to it, good enough to be released as a single, better than Push the Button.
3. Follow Me Home - A relaxing, chilled out ballad. The girls are able to show off their vocals on this track. Good lyrics, though not a very catchy chorus.
Goes downhill from here....
4. Joy Division - Frankly painful to listen to. They have tried to get away from their ...

Advantages: Jam packede with great songs Disadvantages: Misses a couple of releases, but none really
The Sugababes have just been declared as the most successful girl group of the Millennium or was it pop group of the millennium? Having lost more members (well the same amount) than Destiny's Child it wasn't always obvious that they would. Having first appeared back in 2000 with the hugely acclaimed 'Overload' Mutya, Siobhan and Keisha then split up and got dropped. The lost a ginger and gained a blonde with Heidi and the hits started with 'Freak Like Me' in May 2002. They then released two highly acclaimed albums but on the next album 'TallerInMoreWays' Mutya left. Instead of splitting they recruited the amazing Amelle and with 'Red Dress' the band were reborn again? now Sugababes Version 3.0 release 'Overloaded The Singles Collection'. And what a collection it is.

Now that's what I call music have been a great success and now it has got to Now that's what I call music 62 which is the latest and greatest one. The Now that's what I call music series are a compilation of the latest music they come out on average once every 4 months and last week was the release of the Now 62, I have always loved these and so on the day of release I went to get it, another factor of why I have bought it is that I am a DJ and I need the latest music and there is a downside to that which I will come onto later.
Now 62 Disk 1
I will go through the tracks on CD 1 as you may have guessed there is 2 CD's in the package here is CD 1?
