Advantages: Eddies vocals, some nice tunes. Disadvantages: The Nirvana "connection"
...PEARL JAM - TEN
----------------
Pearl Jam, are a slightly unknown band in this country, which is a big shame as we seem to miss out on so much great american rock music, and end up with the watered down pop, even when we do get a nice guitar in a song, its by a "band" such as Busted, now dont get me wrong, i can see why lots of young kids like their music but it doesnt rock!
So this brings me to an album that does Rock, released way back in 1991, this was one of the first rock albums that i got into, i mean i was only 11 at the time!!
know 12 years later this album is still as strong and fresh as it was then.
THE BAND
--------
Pearl Jam were originally known as Mother Love Bone, but with the tragic death of their lead singer Andrew Wood, there came this great band.
Forming after the lead singer Eddie Vedder got a demo...

Advantages: A Couple of Catchy Songs Disadvantages: Uninspiring compared to their older stuff.
...I can't help but be dissapointed with Pearl Jam by this album.
As a huge fan, perhaps I expected a little too much from this self titled album (known to fans as 'Avocado').
OK, its not true to say there are no good songs on the album. 'World Wide Sucide' and 'Umemployable' are catchy almost poppy songs that get the crowd going but apart from these two I feel the album lacks inspiration.
Songs like 'Marker in the Sand' make you wonder where Pearl Jam are headed, while the lyrics in all tracks are tiresomely political.
On the music side of things, this is the shortest review i've ever written, but thats how this album leaves me - with little to remark upon. It just seems extremely average.
The pack the cd comes in isnt exactly inspiring either, while the booklet with the song lyrics in for some reason smells foul...

Advantages: Great songs, catchy, good lyrics Disadvantages: A couple of duffs, some songs start to sound similar
...The Jam. Short lived, but packed lots into those few years. Probably very influential to a lot of people.
Amongst their most famous songs are 'Going Underground', 'Town Called Malice', 'In the City' and 'Beat Surrender', just to name a few.
'That's Entertainment' - an acoustic number, that is probably the most famous, but with lyrics that could easily be misheard. It is meant to be about working class life in the verses, with the ironic 'that's entertainment!' chorus.
'Going Underground' - a political track about the UK's policy on weapons. A classic guitar track, that was originally meant to be the b-side to 'The Dreams of Children'. Good job it wasn't!
'Beat Surrender' - the final Jam single, not included on any studio albums. Upbeat, bouncy, catchy, all the makings of a good pop/mod/whatever you want to call it song...
