Advantages: Fantastic production, beats and vocals. Disadvantages: Parental Advisory can put some people off.
Had i written this review a couple of weeks ago, i wouldn't have had much to say about it. I got this album about 6 months ago, and although i listened to it quite a bit at the time, it's been in my cd rack, collecting dust for many weeks.
It's not my usual genre of music, i am more of an alt-rock/indie kinda gal. But i have been broadening my tastes over the last couple of years.
Upon hearing the fantastic new single, ... ...have been listening to it constantly ever since!
Here's why...
As mentioned in previous reviews, there is an obvious theme here, refering to oral sex/sex in general. This is something which may offend some, and isn't suitable for young children, but isn't something which hinders my enjoyment of the music.
I place more importance on lyrics in other genres of music, but with R n B/Hip Hop albums, the beats and ... more

Upon hearing the fantastic new single, Millionaire, on the radio, i dug out the album and have been listening to it constantly ever since!
Here's why...
As mentioned in previous reviews, there is an obvious theme here, refering to oral sex/sex in general. This is something which may offend some, and isn't suitable for young children, but isn't something which hinders my enjoyment of the music. I place more importance on lyrics in other genres of music, but with R n B/Hip Hop albums, the beats and production is my main focus. You can almost guarantee a bit more naughtiness on an album like this, compared to, say, a Coldplay offering. The 'Parental Advisory, Explicit Content' sticker is there for a reason!
Moving on to my track by track review...
1. Intro - A 'dirty' little spoken exchange between Kelis and a gentleman friend. A subtle backing track plays as Kelis tempts her man with different foodstuffs, gauging his reaction before moving on to the next offering. The sound effects start with packets/wrappers being opened, and end with a zip being undone. You can figure out the rest! A raunchy little appetiser to the album, which can easily be skipped by those who like their music censored.
2. Trick Me The 2nd single from the album, Trick Me is ever so catchy and received massive airplay, (not only in my student house!) The twanging riff sticks in your head, and the lyrics are applicable to anyone who's been cheated on, male or female. A fantastic tune to have a boogie to, in your room or in the club.
3. Milkshake The first single from the album, Milkshake was huge across the radio stations in the UK, leading to major overkill in my mind. It's a basic track, again using wordplay to disguise the true 'dirty' meaning of the song. It gets a bit samey to me after a while, but at the time of its release, it was an original and catchy song.
4. Keep It Down The introduction of chugging guitars brings a darker sound to the album, only to completely contrast it with interludes of fluttery acoustic guitar and accompanying birdsong in the background!
5. In Public Kelis' duet with her fiance NAS doesn't bother with innuendo, and just tells it like it is, particlarly NAS's rap at the end. A sexy little number which would be great in the clubs.
6. Flashback A definite 'album track' due to the amount of the song taken up by the 'Yeah Yeah, Ooh you make my body go' chorus, but still a good track.
7. Protect My Heart Pharrell guest vocals always add to a track, and this is no exception. This song has an 80s feel to it, and is less catchy than others, but still great.
8. Millionaire My favourite track on Tasty, this is a joint effort by Kelis and Andre 3000 from OutKast. With OutKast's Speakerboxx/The Love Below being a favourite of mine, this track was always going to be a winner in my mind, and i'm only disappointed i'm no longer at uni to enjoy a good old shimmy to this on a friday night! Equal Kelis and Andre vocals, a tinkling piano and a rapid, pipping backing track make this a lush, flowing dreamy track with added funk. At only 3:40 mins, i'd love some extended remixes.
9. Glow Another good track, laid back if not slightly 'filler', but following Millionaire is a tricky placing!
10. Sugar Honey Iced Tea Back to the funkiness, this track is very reminiscent of the 80s, especially the electro backing vocals. Another great one to dance to and lovely harmonies!
11. Attention Carrying on with the 80s theme, Attention is another smooth track, with some cool little tin can and electro beats and a hint of an electric guitar creeping in every now and then.
12. Rolling Through The Hood An track obviously written by The Neptunes, this has a smooth and funky Stevie Wonder quality to it, with a slight latino rhythm. Very good.
13. Stick Up A very strong track late on in the album, Stick Up has a crisp and sharp beat and smooth vocals. A simple but very well produced track with a nice little extra ditty going on in the background.
14. Marathon A great closing track, more rapid beats in the backing track, with some strings adding a dramatic quality to the overall sound. The vocals seems slightly low-key in this track, but still follow in Kelis' style of laid back and smooth. Also some flowing harp-like sounds and soaring vocals further through, which bring the album to a close brilliantly.
Overall opinion:
Ok, i'm not experienced in writing music reviews - although i can always waffle onto friends about the merits or misjudgements of an album! Much of this album runs along the same lines: smooth tunes, creamy vocals, glossy production with some added funk here and there. If this sounds like your bag, you'll love Tasty. It's sexy and classy and will have you shimmying around the dancefloor, or kitchen sink, complete with marigolds! It's also a great album to stick on for a romantic evening, or a cool houseparty.
The singles are catchy, the guest vocals are cool, and the overall production is the top quality we've come to expect of The Neptunes.
If you have a dislike of 'rude lyrics' or innuendo, you probably won't take to this album, but if, like me, you can look beyond the smut, this could become a welcome addition to your collection.
To recap:

Label: Virgin
Price: As usual with chart CDs, if you hunt around you'll find it for less than £10 in supermarkets/online etc.
Advantages: Two great catchy songs. Disadvantages: Tasteless, very average.
With her incredibly catchy singles ‘Milkshake’ and ‘Trick Me’, Kelis is the sort of singer my kids want the album of. It’s such a shame her album is very adult with umpteen swear words and sexual references. I have decided to let me three older kids (aged 11, 12 and nearly 14) listen to this, as they seem to know everything from the school playground gossip anyway! (I thought a milkshake was something I bought from the Spar in banana flavour, but ... ...from younger kids or older relatives that might be shocked.
Anyway, I bought the album off Ebay for £7, which was about the same price as buying the two singles I like anyway. The album opens with a quite explicit Intro which is all about oral sex and is completely unnecessary! It’s not even a song, it’s more of a skit. I mean, why? I know you expect sexual references from the likes of Eminem, but I wasn’t expecting it from Kelis. (Call me naïve!) ...

Advantages: A couple of good songs, sexy front cover, changed her hairdo!!! Disadvantages: Only a couple of good songs
...the album…and it definitely was tasty probably too tasty for some people. The first track on the album sounds like something from a Karma Sutra recital, which infact I did like and was great for me and other adults, but with the sound of ‘milkshake’ spreading, children needing parental supervision were wanting the album. I know my eight year old sister loved it. Hearing my little sis' singing 'the boys are waiting (as I know she didn’t understand ... ...my spine!!
It has obviously got explicit content and needs parental guidance.
Unfortunately there are only a few songs on this album that were good. With ‘milkshake’, it was a new sound mainly talking about ‘how to give oral sex to a bloke (Can I say that? I hope so?!) and how she does it ‘brings all the boys to the yard’. It was brilliant for the clubs, it had a catchy bass beat and has her singing/talking the lyrics, which suits her image and ...

Advantages: Couple of Great Songs Disadvantages: Most songs are terrible
...happened that they had Kelis’ Tasty on special offer for just £5.99, so I thought why not buy it? I loved Milkshake and Trick Me, and we had been listening to the catchy Millionaire on the ferry crossing, so I decided to buy the album so I could chill out and listen to them on the way home.
First of all I am going to write a little bit about each song, and tell you what I think of them, so brace yourselves!
Track 1 – Intro (1:30)
Is it me or is ... ...out about this song; it’s not really the kind of thing that you expect to hear at the beginning of an album, especially if your not prepared for it. It’s not really a song anyway! Its just a crude was to start off an album; therefore I’m rating it as a crude 1/10.
Track 2 – Trick Me (3:26)
One of the 3 songs that kind of makes me feel that my money wasn’t too badly spent on buying this album. I think that this song is incredibly catchy, and you ...

Advantages: Hot, sexy and fun Disadvantages: One or two duff tracks, no lyrics included
Okay, I'm with the person who gave this the bad review on the subject of the introduction skit at the start. I really don't think it's necessary to put a skit about oral sex (which can't clearly be about anything else) at the start of an album you wouldn't necessarily expect it from. The thing about Kelis is, in spite of being quite brash and rude, she always give the impression she is quite innocent and doesn't realise this, which is why I think ... ...she is spoiling her whole "vibe" a bit.
But, apart from that . . . I LOVE this album. I've owned it for about eight months now and it has been one of my most played cds over that space of time! Funnily enough, i barely listen to "Milkshake" or "trick me" anymore (overexposure on the radio, I guess?) but there's more than enough other good songs to keep me entertained. I didn't really expect much from this album (although Trevor Nelson said it was ...

...a subtle sexual feel to TASTY is most definitely that. Although it can be repetitive in some tracks and is not the type of CD that be listened to non-stop for a week it features NAS, Andre 3000 and Raphael Saadiq and is definitely an album worth buying, Despite my passionate hatred for the song milkshake i still thorougly recommend this to anyone considering buying it, I know u'll love it!!! ...

Cute intro. Kelis welcomes us to her album. Necessary???
2. Young fresh 'n' new
Kicking rock anthem. Great song that sees Kelis let go and rule this song. Lyrically sound.
3. Flash back
Features again on "Tasty" - although I don't know why. Average but funky - I guess.

Cool song with great beat. Hard hitting, edgy song.

10. Easy come easy go

11. Junkie ...
Advantages: Neptunes produced, some great r & b tunes, fantastic vocals from Kelis Disadvantages: a couple of duff tracks, no lyrics provided (making it harder for me to sing along - which is probably an ADVANTAGE for other people, namely my flatmates!!!)
I was a huge fan of Kelis' latest album "Tasty" so when I noticed her debut album "Kaleidoscope" on amazon for a mere fiver a few months ago, I decided I would finally get around to buying it, five years after its release!!!
Yes, the realisation is scary but the album which spawned one of the biggest man-hating songs ever written was actually released in February 2000. Talk about making a person feel old! It was produced by the little-known (ha!) Neptunes - well, they weren't as big as they are now! - and Pharrell & Co wrote all the tracks - although, refreshingly, Kelis did contribute to the writing of a handful of them.
All three single releases from the album appear first of all and provide a great, funky blast from the not-so-distant past. "Good Stuff" pops up first, classic Kelis-style r & b, based around a dirty bass hook ...
Advantages: One for the young and old alike with a fine voice for all occasions. Disadvantages: A tad restrictive. A few weak songs.
the mood for the rest of the album but definately the next song - the lead single "Don't care who knows" does.
The inclusion of the rapper adds a little something but Keisha is still the main attraction. A smooth club track that does what it should. With a catchy chorus and sensual sounds this song is pure groove.
The next three songs are all along the same vein and give stability to the album which could have easily seemed scatty. Instant vintage yet still remaining contemporary. Sexy but not overtly sexy. Sexy in the sense that this lady knows she's in control and doesn't have to take her clothes off for people to take notice of her. You end up knowing who's in control. What's great about these tracks is they anchor the album and give it some substance. Take Kelis' "Tasty" which was practically a teaser it was so substance-free and you ...
'Tasty' is the third album from Kelis and after the abstract funk rock of her second release 'Wanderland' returns to the R&B sound that propelled her into the media spotlight. Produced by the Neptunes, P. Diddy and Timbaland to name a few the album is a mix of futuristic R&B, hip hop and soul. 'Tasty' features guest appearances from the likes of Nas, Outkast's Andre 3000 and Raphael Saadig.
