The 16th-century composer John Taverner produced some of the most glorious church music of ... more
the early Tudor period before apparently renouncing composition upon his conversion to Protestantism, repenting, according toFoxe's Book of Martyrs"that he had made songs to popish ditties in the time of his blindness". Fortunately, some of his music survived his conversion--this classic recording of perhaps the best of his three masses and two shorter pieces demonstrates just how impressive a composer he was. The hymn to Mary, "Gaude Plurimum", has a glowing richness; the darker "Mass for the Crown of Thorns" is delicately austere in its accumulation of abstract vocal patterns around the detailed setting of the words of the liturgy. This is the sort of music which Harry Christophers and the Sixteen are best at--their performance combines absolute technical control with an underlying sense of the music's religious context. --Roz Kaveney

Advantages: Refreshingly Different Disadvantages: None
Don't be put off by the title Missa Luba 'An African Mass' or think that it's 'too high-brow'!
Missa Luba is a wonderful example of African rhythms and percussive instrumentation - drums and shaken gourds - with traditional African 'call and response' melodies together with additional harmonies. Based on the traditional Mass the work consists of just five tracks - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei - and is just over fifteen minutes long.
The remainder of the recording consists of 10 Kenyan Folk Melodies. These too are as wonderful and refreshing as the Missa Luba .
Ideal for the 'serious' listener, as background music or for those who wish to listen to something a little different.
Go on. Give it a try; you will be glad you did. After all you have nothing to loose but much enjoyment to be gained.

Advantages: Great taste and goes marvellously with tequilla! Disadvantages: Hard to find
Corona Extra
Corona is Mexico's best selling beer, is huge in the US and is beginning to make an impact here in the UK. It boasts rich golden colour, 4.6% ABV and a smooth yet crisp finish which does not leave you feeling bloated. It is great with a wedge of lime (make sure to crush the lime into the bottle to get the juice out before drinking!) or on it's own as a tequilla chaser (only 100% agave will do!!!).
Corona, served ice cold (the way it should be!) is great on it's own but also works well with food - it compliments a chilli or curry, especially a hot one, superbly.
It comes in a clear bottle with a White and Blue label. 4 Packs are generally yellow with blue writing, wheras boxes of 24 are white with blue writing.
Corona in the UK used to hold, and in some places still does, a premium lager status. It was generally ...

Advantages: It doesn't taste like mexican pee. Disadvantages: You really do need that slice of lime.
Having read a few very negative reviews on this product I feel I have to set the record straight.
YOU ARE ALL DRINKING IT WRONG.
The LOOK
It's a standard sized bottle with a black and white label saying Corona Extra with various translations of the word 'beer' printed below. It comes in packs of 4 or 6 in supermarkets for roughly £4, and can be as much as £3 when bought in a club or pub.
It has a bottle cap you need the opener for, not like tuborg with it's snazzy ring pull.
The TASTE
On it's own, this beer is bland. It's very fizzy, very frothy, and doesn't have a massive amount of flavour to it.
Most people say that like this it tastes like Mexican pee rather than beer, and to be honest, I'd have to agree with you.
However, this beer is not designed to be drunk on it's own. What you are supposed to do is put a slice of lime in ...
