That's what teenagers are like!
Today I want to review the single "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance. This
song has been taking of the successful album "The Black Parade" which came
out in 2006.
Shopper's appeal
I bought this CD because I am a huge fan of
My Chemical Romance. When I
really like a band or an artist, I try to buy pretty much every CD available. Singles
are nice for a collection as they often contain unreleased songs or live recordings
that you can't get anywhere else. Sometimes there are remixes and other extras
as well.
Having them in your collection while provide you with more songs and maybe some
nice cover artwork - what's not to love?
Who are My Chemical Romance?
My Chemical Romance consists of give guys from New Jersey. The band is
touring quite often and has released three albums by now. Singer Gerard Way has
a remarkable voice but the other band members are greatly loved and have a lot
of fans. Their music could be described as punkrock, but lately they have been
considered "emorock", too. This genre mixes pop music with punk and rock while providing rather dramatic, emotional lyrics. Other similar bands might be
Fall Out Boyand
Panic! At The Disco. I believe the great thing about this music is that it is
rock usic that can easily appeal to a lot of listeners.
The CD
Tracklist
1. Teenagers
2. Dead (Live)
3. Mama (Live)
In Detail1._ Teenagers_
"Teenagers" is a loud, powerfull song that really gets you into the mood for rocking
out! It's about "bad" teenagers who only learn negative things from grownups.
Two sides are described in the song - the side of the teenagers who don't really
have the chance to become courageous individuals because they are molded into
ship to become "another cog in the murder machine". You also get the side of
teenagers who feel lost and become violent and ignorant.
The song is rather loud and really belongs into the genre of rock. It is dominated
by drums and electric guitars - but it sounds perfect!
2. Dead (Live)
This is a great live recording of the song "Dead" which, with another song, built
the opening of the "Black Parade" album.
The recording is quite "clean" for a live recording and it's exciting to listen to it. The
song is quite fast and cathcy - I love to listen to it while doing sports. It's energetic
and motivating although the lyrics are, as you can imagine, rather negative and
dark. Who would have thought a song called "Dead" can be uplifting?
3.
Mama (Live)Again, a high quality concert recording which is a gem to any fan of the band.
"Mama" sounds like a bizarre, rockin' variety theatre song that has become a hymn
to
My Chemical Romance fans. The song is
very catchy and really something
special. On the album, the famous Liza Minelli sings a little bit - but in the live
version, of course, she is not available - so singer Gerard Way decides to wail
like a baby at the part where Minelli would be singing. Crazy, but defenitely more
original than playing a tape with Minelli's singing. ;)
"Mama" prooves that rock and cabaret can be fitted into one song.
Altogether the CDs runs eleven minutes and two seconds. That may not be much,
but I promise you eleven minutes of pure musical pleasure.
The Price
I bought this CD at the a music shop in Germany for €5.99, which (right now)
equals five pounds.
Surprisingly, the D is still available at Amazon for £9.49. You can also download the
individual songs for £0.89 each.
Conclusion
I defenititely don't regret buying this CD - my
My Chemical Romance collection
has grown once again and I can now listen to two exciting live recordings. It's
really worth it - five stars for "Teenagers"!
