Ok, so you may not have heard of Tenacious D, I hadnt until quite recently, they brought out their first single, TRIBUTE, from this album. It was played on the sky music channel KERRANG all the time, it was in the top ten there for around 7 weeks.
But does that mean that its any good?
Well firstly TENACIOUS D are Jack Black and Kyle Gass, Ive heard of Jack Black i hear you cry! Well the reason why is probably because he is also an actor!
Mr Black has been in SHALLOW HAL and the forthcoming ORANGE COUNTY. He also makes various cameo appearances in other films, he also tends to appear in some other music videos.
He is basically the love him or hate him guy, many probably are of both dispositions!
Kyle Gass, he is the other one, the stupid, one, well Jack Black makes him out to be anyway!
As i have said they have been around for a while, my friend sheds some light on the fact they did a sound ages ago which contained the lyrics: "I'm the only gay eskimo." Put off? You might be!
This album is a mix of soft rock, harder rock and comical intervals. It is self titled
Track 1:Kielbasa 3:02 "I love ya baby but all i can think
about is Kielbasa sausage" Quite random i admit but its not a bad song, a good rhythm, about sex inevitably
Track 2:One Note Song 1:24 It is what it says, Kyle and Jack argue over the song and "aliens living among us." They just play one note throughout! Another random song! Amusing though!
Now one that is the most well known. "The greatest and best song in the world."
Track 3:Tribute 4:08 The story is that they play the first song they come up with, and it must be the best song in the world or a demon will eat their souls. Ok got that? Its got a few quirly little bits, a bit more rocky! Great song too! The video features the demon who is played by Foo Fighters singer and Queens of the stoneage drummer Dave Grohl!
Track 4: Wonderboy 4:07 Great rhthym, rocks abit. The story of Wonderboy and young nasty man and their powers, who are infact Kyle and Jack who got together and formed the band TENACIOUS D.
Track 5: Hard F**king 0:36 Kyle and Jack talk abour the above and what women like!
Track 6: F**k Her Gently 2:03 A great song again, rhymes and everything. Its also wholly amusing! "Sometimes youve got to squeeze, sometimes youve got to say please." Apparently! The video is good too as it is animated, worth a watch(Sometimes on Kerrang)
Track 7: Explosivo 1:55 All about riding on a horse, and smoking weed, quite random again, however this is probably the first song that rocks the most. Some scary bits in this one though! Not my Favourite!
Track 8: Dio 1:41 A slower song about a guy called Dio who used to rock. They talk about taking himas a bit of a role model. No idea who it is! Good song.
Track 9: Inward Singing 2:13 Really crazy, a comic one, "the most powerful tool in singing technology." Jack invents something that means he can sing non stop! Sounds weird but its rather amusing!
Track 10: Kyle Quit The band 1:30 "Last week Kyle quit the band, now were back together." They only came to kick some ass! Great rhythm again, a brill song.
Track 11: The Road 2:20 Sounds a litle like some of the old 50's sonds with the band in the background. Changes over the course of the song. This song rocks, basically singing about a road! (Dont ask me)
Track 12: Co*k Pushups 0:47 They talk about letting your boner lift you off the ground!
Track 13: Lee 1:02 A reapeat of the name Lee mostly. Pretty odd track yet again!
Track 14: Friendship Test 1:31 Jack tests Kyles friendship with a test by telling him he loves him!
Track 15: Friendship 2:00 A song about friendship. "Friendship is rare." Good song. Rocks, but its different, as with all the other songs on the album. "As long as theres a record deal we'll always be friends"
Track 16: Karate Schnitzel 0:37 Jack kicks Kyles ass for eating his schnitzel!
Track 17: Karate 1:05 "ya broke the rules now i'll pull out all your pubic hair." Great song, really cool, one of my favourites!
Track 18: Rock Your Socks 3:33 This song really does rock, they do indeed rock your socks off, singing as you may guess about rocking your socks!
Track 19: Drive Thru 3:01 They order a meal, Jack is mean, again, to Kyle as he makes him pay and he ends up with nothing!
Track 20: Double Team 3:11 Random, with some sex hrown in there for good measure. Talking basically about sex appeal!hmmm!
Track 21: City Hall 6:47 Another rock song to finish off. Maoning about those people up in city hall!
The Inlay of the album is rather pli. A naked TENACIOUS D, but for their guitars are chained to a demon behind them! Its all in black and white! Beware parents- Parental Advisory, explicit content.
The back shows the same demon, you have to look inside for the track listings!
The album was produced by the Dust Brothers, if you dont know who they are, they did the Fight Club soundtrack!
You can get this album from most musci shops, or you could. I think it has recently dropped out of the chart. HMV and V.Shop, Virgin Megastores and What Records will probably have it at around £12.99!
Overall, you will like this album if you like comedy albums and something that is a little different, those who dont like swearing maybe averse to this though!

Advantages: Great debut album, fresh and original, will have you laughing from start to finish Disadvantages: Can be quite embarrassing subconciously mumbling 'Fuck Her Gently' whilst in the presence of ladies or Her Royal Heiness
