Let’s have a look then. Tenacious D, a small band looking for success release a massive smash hit ‘tribute’. Its chords based around the hit ‘stairway to heaven’, the potential lack of originality in the song could have proved it to be shaky in the charts. However, with a comical guest star Demon in the video and amusing lyrics, the song rocketed. Well with this one in the bag. The rockers think that maybe they should make an album. Jack Black (leader of the band) already fairly charismatic after playing the lead in ‘Shallow Hal’ and co-staring in a number of other successful films, he was sure to get the ball rolling. Does it Rock? That is the question; well yes I suppose that it’s hard rocking great fun. But, it does not quite embody the sincerity that legends such as Iron Maiden and Motorhead do, but gives off a more relaxing vibe. The album also contains a very comical side. In fact, the entire album is intended to be humorous. This therefore leads to many speaking tracks with no music on them what so ever. And, although funny first time round, they become very boring and seem more irritating every time that the album is listened to. A major flaw with this album is that there are barely any completely sincere tracks that are good to listen to from a musical side. The only two of this nature that there are on this album are ‘tribute’ and ‘wonder boy’ both of which were hit singles and turned into music videos. Therefore, all of the other songs have excessive swearing, and extreme referances to sex two tracks being called ‘hard f***ing and f*** her gently which are extremely inappropriate for younger children and seem equally imature to adults trying to get the most out of the album. So really, although this album has some clever riffs and funky tunes, it is not all round perfect for at times the humour is weak and there are barely and fantastic songs that are apreciated by all such as the Nirvana albums possess. However, this is tenacious D’s style and all in all it’s a funny album and fairly enjoyable but not perhaps aimed at the more serious rocker.
