Advantages: Some great 70's and 80's tracks Disadvantages: May just be for disco (and similar style) fans
...I've been a very naughty girl recently spending obscene amounts of money treating myself, disgraceful aren't I! Ok, so when I say obscene amounts of money I actually mean the grand sum of £2.10 and when I talk about treating myself, well it was on a 2nd hand CD on Ebay, but who cares about the minor details eh! So what was the must have CD that tempted me to spend such a huge wad of cash? Well it was Earth, Wind & Fire Lets Groove, once again proving my musical taste is much older than my age.
Earth, Wind & Fire are an American band formed in the very late 60's who released some classic 1970's Disco hits and some 80's classics with a bit more of a R&B edge. The band have seen many line up changes over the years and have released nearly 40 albums which include studio albums, live recordings and compilations, their singles tally is over...

...Who on Earth are Electric Six? They exploded onto the UK chart scene earlier in the year with the single ‘Danger! High Voltage’, which was plugged like crazy on the music channels and radio and entered the UK chart at number 2. Not bad for a non boy/girl band debut… until you realise that Electric Six are new only in name.
The band were formerly known as The Wildbunch, releasing singles in the US between 1996 and 2001 before changing their name to Electric Six for legal reasons (exactly why I don’t know). If you were a closet Wildbunch fan, take a look through you collection… you’ll find some of the tracks that feature on the new ‘Fire’ album.
The band have seen more personnel changes than Chelsea Football Club of late. No fewer than four changes during the Wildbunch years and on the 9th of June this year the announcement on nme...

Advantages: Diverse sampler for some of Vangelis' extensive discography. Disadvantages: Lacks context, and ignores much classic material.
...2003 was an eventless year for the music of Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou. The FIFA World Cup anthem he recorded the previous year had been long forgotten, and doesn't even find its way onto this disc. It happened to be thirty years since his third-or-so album 'Earth,' which was quite good, but again doesn't donate any material. Some of the songs here have all been digitally mastered to be improvements on the originals, although this mastering was originally done about five or six best-ofs back. Perhaps it had simply been long enough since the last one to justify a repackaging and re-release under a bloated title.
'Odyssey,' despite its sub-title, has nothing of 'the definitive' about it. In the ceaseless line of best-of compilations for the one-time-Oscar-winning Greek composer, each release has to distinguish itself at least...
