The Art of Conducting - maestro myth revealed?

Advantages: Superb production, fascinating footage, great music
Disadvantages: None whatsoever apart from wanting more

opinions, anecdotes and musings on various maestri featured in the DVD and and much pondering on what elusive ingredients go together to make that rare beast - a "Great Conductor". Finally, the DVD is accompanied by a very well put together booklet, containing full details of all the archive material and pieces played as well as a well written essay on the conductors in "The Art of Conducting" by the journalist Alan Sanders - which has some interesting photos of some of the maestri and musicians on the DVD too. ...

Kill Bill Vol. 2 - can it cut it?

Advantages: Amazing music, sharp script
Disadvantages: Last third drags on a bit

Kill Bill Vol. 2 is the concluding installment of the Kill Bill saga. In this one the Bride (Uma Thurman) continues her vengeance against her ex-boss, Bill, and the two remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad; his younger brother Budd, and Bill's latest flame Elle. The first one had more of an eastern feel, this one is more like a western. So it's dusty, dirty and sweaty. Again Tarantino enlists the help of Ennio Morricone, the man who can take an ordinary western and make it legendary. His music is masterful, the lone trumpets in his compositions invoking a sense of isolation and the wild west, which is exactly the tone this film needs. The acting is good again, helped by a sharp script. The action scenes are fewer and far between than the first one but equally as impressive. Again during the fight scenes ...

Mr Bean - Vol. 2 DVD

Advantages: Hilarious comedy, good viewing
Disadvantages: only 3 episodes, expensive to buy whole set individually

Another installement to my DVD collection - the epic and classic comedy hero - Mr Bean. I love Rowan Atkinson, especially in Black Adder and also in the classic Mr Bean episodes. Despite my mood before hand, after watching Mr Bean I always feel much better, he always manages to intrigue my imagination with his biazarre mannerisms and abilty to turn the most straight forward of tasks into complete disaters! Having not being able to buy the whollebox set I have had to purchase and review each DVD volume one by one. This DVD contains 3 episodes, each with 3 or 4 sketches in them. All of whihc are brilliant and this DVD includes one of my favourites - the one where he goes to the swimming pool and clings to the diving board. The three episodes are entitled: Episode 1. 'The Curse Of Mr Bean', Episode 2. 'Mr Bean Goes To Town ...
