Being a fan of the Bronte's and Jane Austen's books I thought I'd watch a adaption of Austen's book Emma, although I haven't read this movie it has made me want to read all the more!
Emma is set in the countryside and it is the 1800s, Emma is a busybody who tries to pair up her friends with men, but it always ends in disaster. As she continues to make a mess of her friends love lives she slowly begins to fall for her widowed brother-in-law.
Emma is played by Gwyneth Paltrow and it is wonderfully done, although I felt that Emma was a bit annoying.
I also loved the costumes, they looked very authentic and beautiful.
What I also thought was beautiful was the lovely scenery and houses.

I picked up Emma more because I knew I should try Jane Austen as a fan of literature rather than a burning desire to read it. I wasn't expecting much; I knew Jane Austen is an extremely highly regarded writer, but I wasn't expecting more than an arbitrary romance with flowery prose. I was pleasantly surprised.
Emma is a young woman growing up in the rural early nineteenth century as the younger daughter of an aging wealthy father. We meet her as she struggles to cope with her governess leaving her to get married, leaving her alone with her father. She is catapulted into adulthood and has to deal with the responsibilities of this and her standing in the small village community, which includes taking care of the impoverished Mrs and Miss Bates.
