The Battle of Los Angeles is Rage Against the Machine's 3rd album following on from the success of their self-titled debut and sophomore success "Evil Empire". Once again the trademark RATM sounds and aesthetics of Tom Morello's guitars, Zack de la Rocha's vocals, Tim Commerford's basslines and Brad Wilk's drums are featured on a fantastically well thought out and produced album.

Opening with "Testify" the album fits somewhere between the band's other 2 albums and sounds as if RATM had really found their place within the music arena at the time they recorded this album. Following testify is "guerilla radio" the biggest single success of the album and a song which sums up RATM in their finest. The song is full of standard RATM guitar, bass and drum stylings as well as having a strong basis for the lyrics, in this case the wrongful conviction of a ex-radio DJ.

The rest of the album continues in a similar style to all RATM albums, full of amazing songs each with a social/political basis to the lyrics. It is perhaps this above anything which has earned RATM the reputation they now hold, not only for being able to produce fantastic music but their devotion to the wrongs of the current political and social climates and their use of music as their medium to convey that message to the masses.

Overall The Battle of LA is an amazing album, both for its music and also for the underlying feelings it can express, the maturity gained by RATM in the 7 years between this album and their debut is huge and this album reflects this immensely. If only all modern rock music was as thought provoking and well structured as RATM have become.
