Review of Essential R&B - The Love Collection - Various Artists by lawjlove

Advantages: chilled out happy tunes
Disadvantages: variety of artists not just R&B

...I loved this CD collection, it has a fantastic range of artists on it, which allows for the CD to appeal to all diffent types of individuals, it says that it is am essential R&B collection yet i woul say that some of the variety of songs are also Hip Hop and possibly slightly dance tracks. Fantastic for singing along to when your in the car, exspecially in this nice weather. Containes a mix of various tracks from present day, back to the some oldies such as Bobbi Brown, which is always good to hear from time to time. Has some classic's from Destinys child to Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys, this CD collection gives off a positive happy vibe, which is what we all need when the summer is on its way.... Read review

essential listening for any serious music buff
Review of De-Loused In The Comatorium - Mars Volta (The) by scyphus

Advantages: Tense, franctic, challenging.
Disadvantages: maybe too challenging for casual listeners

...The album comes off as challenging for most. The sound is frantic and heavily layered. By your second listen though you'll begin to settle into the absolute genius of Omar Rodriguez Lopez's blend of sala, free-jazz and classic rock/metal guitar. The lyrical content matches the guitar with a flow and ingenuity rarely seen in any modern rock albums. Each track remains intriguing every listen and leaves you craving for more of the band (hint: listen to live stuff). If you're a top-chart junkie though then this is not for you. If you're into any sort of rock be it classic or death-metal then this is an essential addition to your collection. comparisons: the mahavishnu orchestra, led zeppelin, at the drive-in, omar rodriguez-lopez.... A genuinely 'essential' collection
Review of Essential Bruce Springsteen, The (Limited Edition) - Bruce Springsteen by Essan

Advantages: Excellent selection of old songs and some new, rare material as well
Disadvantages: Fans will already have all the tracks on the first 2 CDs of the set

...that rightly closed many of his shows during the 'Reunion' and 'Rising' tours. It certainly deserves its place in an Essential Collection. Now, some might say the inclusion of a 3rd disc of previously unreleased material is a cynical ploy to get hard core fans to part with their cash and buy an album that otherwise they'd not even consider purchasing. But considering you can get the 3 CD package for little more than the price of a normal single CD release, maybe that's a tad unfair. The selection of unreleased material on CD3 is not as strong as that on 18 Tracks, but it does include the classic anthem Trapped (which often appears in the live set during the current Magic tour) as well as the gentle Born in the USA outtake County Fair and Dead Man Walking - written for the soundtrack of the Oscar winning film...
