The best songs
Henrietta
Well
this is probably one of the best known songs by the Fratellis and in my opinion it’s also one of the best tracks on the album. The opening guitar music is so instantly catchy and tune that’ll definitely stick around in your head. I love this song when it comes on in a pub or club because it’s so upbeat and garunteed to lift your spirits! It’s also great to dancing to, probably more so after a few drinks. I also love the lyrics to this song, e.g ‘come live with us amongst the has beens and the addicts.’ All else I can really say about this song is that I think it’s extremely likeable!
Flathead
I think this songs probably best known for the i-pod adverts, which feature someone listening to this song on an I-pod. The reason I love this song is because the verses are quite low key but then when the choruses come in they’re a lot punchier and livelier, which I think creates a really well balanced and enjoyable listen.
Whistle for the choir
This is an acoustic song, and one of the slower ones on the album. It’s pleasant to listen to when just relaxing as it’s not upbeat enough to dance to. As the name implies some parts of the song feature whistling which I think adds a nice touch. I also think the song adds a nice break in the album between the much more fast moving catchy tunes.
Chelsea Dagger
For the very few people out there who haven’t heard this song….get it listened to! This is definitely the most upbeat song on the album and the one most likely to get you moving as soon as it starts. I went to see The Fratellis live earlier this year and nearly got completely squashed when this song came on because everyone went so wild over it! Probably the most well known, over played song on the album that I’ve heard hundreds of times and I still love it.
For the Girl
I think this is my favourite song on the album. I absolutely love it from start to finish. It kicks in with a fantastically catchy beat straight away and only gets better from there. I also love the lyrics to this song, especially ‘she was into the stones when I was into the roses.’ Most of the chorus is just the word ‘La’ repeated but it’s done in such a catchy way, I think it’s fantastic!
Ole black and blue eyes
In my opinion this songs a perfect end to a brilliant album. It’s another one of the slower songs, but I think it’s lovely and the lead singers voice sounds great in it. I also love the tune at the end as it’s still slow but catchy.
Even though I missed out half the songs here it’s not because I don’t think they’re all brilliant! These are just my favourite ones. As I mentioned earlier I went to see The Fratellis earlier this year and they were amazing live and the whole audience went crazy for them! If you’re already a Fratellis fan I definitely recommend seeing them live if you haven’t already!
I’d advise anyone who likes the singles The Fratellis have brought out to buy this album as I think the rest of the songs are equally good. If you haven’t really heard them then I’d still recommend the album as there’s a good mix of slow and upbeat songs which are all extremely likeable. I think they have quite a unique style, and I love the way John Lawler sings (sounds kind of like he smokes 40 a day….but still sounds brilliant!)
The album price varies but average I’ve seen in about £7.99. Worth every penny and much more.
