Almost everything and everyone is here, albeit in small doses: Tebaldi, Pavarotti (a lot), Bjoerling, Bartoli, Sutherland, Solti, Karajan, Troyanos, Gheorghiu, Nucci; the composers are Puccini, Verdi, Bizet, and all the other usual suspects. There are plenty of fine compilation sets on the market, and this is one of the best. One can only hope that it whets listeners' appetites for whole operas.--Robert Levine

It was only a matter of time before I commented on the "World's Greatest Dog Show" and here it is.
Indeed, it does exactly what it says on the tin - dog's and people from around the world, it's the greatest as there's no substitute for the luxurious green carpet, it has dogs and it's a show. Well, that's it then. Review finished.

It's incomprehensible how much is crammed into the NEC in the four days that Crufts runs. Having been last year, mother and I decided that this would be our holiday this year - we're not the saddest people in the world - it's just not that cheap, especially with the overpriced bacon-baps and necessary dog toys, treats, blankets, collars, piccies - all for the girls that are a compulsory purchase! Advantages: Can see the show if you can't afford a show ticket Disadvantages: Not quite as good as being in the theatre itself!
I am a huge fan of the Cirque Du Soleil shows and have been lucky enough to win tickets to two of the shows. The last time I won tickets I couldn't actually go on the night they offered me the VIP package so they advised they could offer me two seats in the best section instead and they would send me a few bits of merchandise to make up for not being able to enjoy the VIP package. One of these items was the DVD of the show. I didn't actually watch it until recently as I completely forgot they had given it to me as when it had arrived in the post I had simply put it on my shelf to watch after seeing the real thing!
Directed by Nick Morris this DVD is the full show of Varekai. It was filmed back in 2003 and was during a performance at the Grand Chapiteau in Toronto.

While on holiday in the Peak District I went to see a play at this beautiful Edwardian theatre. It is located in The Square next to the Pavilion Gardens and is a 900 seated opera house.

It was originally built in 1903 and of Frank Matcham's design and was fully restored in 2001. It is a community theatre, catering for a wide range of tastes and ages and presents around 450 performances each year varying from opera, pantomine and children's shows. It attracts a host of famous names including, Peter kay and Ken Dodd.
You can book by phone (08451272190) or in person from Monday to Saturday 10am to 8pm but we booked on line, which was very easy to do and accessible 24 hours a day, although there is a small charge for doing this.
