Aerosmith greatest hits or greatest ****s?

Advantages: Brilliant, wonderful rock songs
Disadvantages: ...Erm...not for people who like dance music...misses their newer stuff

So going through a pile of my mums CD I spot Westlife, Madonna, Avril Lavigne, Athelete then Aerosmith's greatest hits...well doesn't take a genius to work out which I'm going to take a listen to does it. The plastic cased cover has a nice that when the case is opend "flat" looks rather attractive, the inlay book is album history and credits (why no lyrics?) and the back of the case has the song list. This world famous band, who've been together for well over 30 years, are considered one of the staple's of American rock, the band led by the always charismatic Steven Tyler (Mick Jagger lookey likey or what?) have managed a longevity many modern bands would be happy with and more so, they have been performing at a high level for the marjority of it. Review of Greatest Hits - Aerosmith

Mostly from the 80s, not many hits & almost no disco tracks

Advantages: The 6 number 1 records
Disadvantages: The rest of the tracks are rubbish

Well the title itself is a misnomer for starters as the disco era was a fairly short period during the mid 1970's as disco was ousted from the music scene by Punk and the 80's were ruled by 2 Tone Ska then the New Romantics and synth music at least as far as the UK went any way. Disco may have lived on into the 80's in America but it was replaced by electro, hip hop then rap followed by House music. Wikipedia even openly admits that disco died in 1979 but also states "the genre continued to be popular elsewhere during the 1980s", probably in less fashionable countries that hadn't adopted whatever was popular from England or America by then. The Cure - Greatest Hits

Advantages: All the best songs in one place
Disadvantages: Not worthwhile for the aged-old fan

Being the impressionable 21-year old, I'm always keen to find new music to add to my collection or taste. But sometimes it helps to go back a few years as well.... A couple of years ago, if you'd have asked me to name a couple of Cure songs, I'd have said "what?" and the closest I'd be able to come is say "isn't their lead singer a bit 'eccentric' for an old man?".... However, upon a visit to the iTunes store and typing in 'The Cure', I recognised the first 6 songs on offer. How is that so? Well, I thought maybe it would be because Robert Smith & co have been doing rather well off royalty money from adverts/theme tunes/backing music in recent year.....no, it's because they've produced music that has stood the test of time and is just as good now as it was then.
