Advantages: Well crafted heavy metal
Disadvantages: Not quite as inspiring as "Seventh Son" or "Number of the Beast"

...After the disappointing "No Prayer for the Dying" I found this to be a definite upturn in albums from Iron Maiden, which I felt made it even more unfortunate when Bruce Dickinson left after the tours that followed this album's release. The songs on this album are highly intelligent well constructed examples of heavy metal, a genre which has been overly associated with puerile lyrics, sexist and satanic links, and over-indulgent behaviour. Well they are definitely a step up from "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" on the previous album. This is an album that will probably get overlooked in Maiden's catalogue, but it is well worth a listen or two.... Read review

Iron Maiden - Best Of The Beast

Advantages: It has every Maiden classic you can think of!
Disadvantages: A few tracks which really shouldn't be on there.

...Smoke: The album of No Prayer For The Dying takes its role on the compilation. I was suprised to see this track on the album, as I wasn't sure it was one of Maidens best. Maiden criticize religion and ethics on this track and question peoples conceptions on high rulers. A slightly slower paced track, with a rare chord sequence used. Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter: A sometimes forgotten Iron Maiden song, but their only UK number 1. It has been proved to be a fantastic live song, but unfortunately not used as much in their live sets anymore. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son: The title track from Maidens mid-age album. It was this stage in my review I realised my version of 'Best Of The Beast' is different to the one on the Iron Maiden website and so im guessing the one I am reviewing now is the updated one. Advantages: Great Album, Interactive Version Available
Disadvantages:

...A Piece Of Mind This album launched Iron Maiden into the mainstream with its speed metal guitar riffs and great vocal prowess from Bruce Dickinson. In a recent interview Bruce said that this was also his favourite Maiden album. It is a speed metal classic. 1. Where Eagles Dare (Feel The Bullets Rip Right Through You). 2. Revelations (A Slow Prayer Which Speeds Up, Brilliant Guitar Solo's With A Soft Finish.) 3. Flight Of Icarus (Ancient Greek Story, Single Release) 4. Die With Your Boots On (Great Rhythm) 5. Trooper (Single Release, A Classic) 6. Still Life (Slow And Beautiful, Transports You To A More Tranquil Place) 7. Quest For Fire 8. Sun & Steel (Shortest Song, Speed Metal Head Banger) 9. To Tame A Land (Transports You To Iran) A great album and a good starting point for anyone wanting to get into Iron Maiden. A computer... Read review
