THIS ENSHRINES WHAT CLASSICAL MUSIC IS!
Review of Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro by Puma1000

Advantages: The instruments actually manage to sing to each other!
Disadvantages: If there is any I'd like to know.

...trying to woo or persuade the other to reply gently. What you get though is a short sharp burst in reply. This gradual persuasion from one section of the orchestra to the other is attempted many times until, finally the whole orchestra is communicating harmoniously with one another and all the previous attempts bear fruition in an amazing melody. If you are to get any of Mozart's songs this one is perfect to start off your classical music collection. For any of you interested in purchasing the song it is cheaply available on its own or as part of a compilation CD for approximately £5 from most retailers such as Virgin or HMV. Even better is to look out for the Naxos music label as most of my classical music collection comprises of them. For £5 it is very cheap and they've practically got all the classical music ever created under there wings... Read review

Review of Mozart: Divertimenti K.287 & K.131 by Floon

Advantages: You could become a genius
Disadvantages: But then again you might not

...of you by way of intense concentration. It is, in short, easy to listen to, whether it accompanies a good meal, a snog on the sofa or your daily chores. Both works are written for orchestra, K287 for two horns and strings while K131 (written when Mozart was only sixteen) is for flute, oboe, four horns and strings). The Adagio (slow) movement of K287 has one of those heart-stopping melodies, played softly on the violins, that lifts you up on high, while the gently teasing Allegretto of K131 has a tune that keeps running round your head long afterwards. And don't miss the sound of the four horns playing together in the following movement - a really exciting noise. Indeed, every movement has something to keep you delighted. This Naxos disc has been in my collection for a couple of years now and I never tire of it. It is played throughout... Read review

Solo piano at its best
Review of Arcadi Volodos: Piano Transcriptions by bae22

Advantages: Incredible virtuosity
Disadvantages: High price tag

...This young pianist from Russia burst onto the music scene in the mid-nineties and has made a huge impact. His first CD is a collection of piano transcriptions, many of which are arranged by Horowitz. The sheer virtuosity combined with great passion for the music ensures captive listening. The recording of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 is by far the best I have come across. He also shows off his talents as a composer by playing his own arrangement of Mozart's Turkish March. The results are spectacular, if you can afford the exhorbitant price tag. Absolutely astounding.e spectacular, if you can afford the exhorbitant price tag.... Read review
