Review of Mozart: Divertimenti K.287 & K.131 by Floon

...of TV ads. The only “mystery” bit for some of you will be the titles. The music I’m recommending on the disc under review goes by the name of Divertimento. This means nothing more (or less) than a piece to entertain (or divert the attention). The strange numbers K131 and K247 are also easily explained. After Mozart’s death a helpful fellow by the name of Ludwig von Köchel spent ten years of his life tracing and cataloguing Mozart’s works, assembling them as nearly as possible in chronological order and giving each one a number to indicate where it stands in relation to all the others: so K1 (a short piano piece) was Mozart’s first known work in Köchel’s catalogue and K626, the Requiem, was his last. OK so far? Good. The titles of the individual movements shouldn’t cause any problems if you speak Italian, the unofficial “language... Read review

Review of Automatic For The People - R.E.M. by Saturn

Advantages: rare quality
Disadvantages:

...This is an album created by fine craftsmen. Albums of this quality are rare and welcome, not least because they help to put the tired old arguments about musical and lyrical quality. No one can argue with the quality of either here. It may not be Shakespeare or Mozart but it is raw, wired and speaks clearly to its time. I especially like Find The River, which seems to have crept into the classic category. I hear it in the strangest places and I don't remember it ever being a single. I hope they keep on going, because I can't see the quality slipping.... Read review

Sex, Jokes, and Don Giovanni!
Review of Mozart: Don Giovanni by insight2005

Advantages: A nice relaxing album
Disadvantages: Needs an aquired taste

...1). CD Infomation: (a) - 3 CDS (72 tracks) (b) - Accompanying book (204 pages, commentary and background information in Italian, German, French and English) (c) - Language of opera - Italian (d) - Total running time, 161' 28" 2). Background to the Opera: Don Giovanni was one of Mozarts greatest opears, and as a result is one of the most popularfor all those who have a taste for the delights opera provides. Don Giovanni is all about an Italian Nobleman, Don Giovanni, who is a great womaniser. Consequently, Don Giovanni, has been remarked as a "light-hearted sexual promiscuity". Life for Don Giovanni is fine (a minimum of 6 girls a night!), however, after he rapes Donna Anna, and murders her father (the Commendatore) , after he challenges him to a duel once he discovers Don Giovanni at his game! From that point, Don Giovanni's luck... Read review
