Whoever first dreamt up the title "The Only Piano/Opera/Banjo Album You'll Ever Need" must ... more
have been hoping record buyers wouldn't take it too literally. A translation would be "We Hope That When You've Listened To This You'll Want To Buy Lots More Piano/Opera/Banjo Albums". So as an attempt to lure listeners into the world of the piano, how does this set measure up? Most of the all-time favourite piano pieces are here (though you won't find Golliwogg's Cakewalk) and childhood memories may well be stirred by the likes of Für Elise and Rondo alla Turca. It's not all solo piano--the orchestra is wheeled on for the Big Moments from concertos by Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart and Rachmaninov (who also gets the famous 18th variation from Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini). Among the big-name pianists represented are Geza Anda, Emanuel Ax, Emil Gilels, Vladimir Horowitz, Alfredo Perl, Kathryn Stott and Andrew Wilde. Recordings range in time from 1955 to 1999. Purists may bridle at the lollipop nature of the programme, but for those genuinely looking for an introduction to the instrument's richly rewarding repertoire, the 150 minutes of music on these two CDs should fit the bill nicely. --Keith Clarke

The title of this double album makes an audacious claim, but there are some classic ... more
performances: Ethel Merman ("There's No Business Like Show Business"), Carol Channing ("Hello, Dolly"), Zero Mostel ("If I Were A Rich Man") and Angela Lansbury ("Everything's Coming Up Roses") are present in all their glory. Even Marilyn Monroe, who didn't star in a single stage musical, sneaks in with her quintessential "I Wanna Be Loved By You" from Some Like It Hot. More recent talents are represented by Michael Ball ("Love Changes Everything"), Alan Cumming ("Money"), Maria Friedman, Ruthie Henshall, Debbie Gravitte ... and the list goes on. Original cast numbers are supplemented with tracks licensed from TER's series of complete studio recordings, and solos from, among others, Cleo Laine and Lesley Garrett. Even Julie Andrews gets a look in, although sadly it is only through her voice over for the parrot in the London production of Doctor Dolittle. Most of the great, popular shows of the second half of the 20th century years are represented, and it would be hard to fault the cast list, even if some of them are odd choices: why, for example, have Marti Webb singing the Phantom's aria, "Music of the Night"? All in all, though, an indulgent hotchpotch for the easy listener rather than a selection for musical purists. --Piers Ford

Advantages: WIFI, Built in speakers, App Store Disadvantages: No microphone included, No Built in camera
Wow, where do I start... this thing can do it all, well almost. Here are some of the features and their benefits.
1 Built In WIFI: The user experience of the IPod is centered around this feature. It lets you go online, read emails, play games with people around the world, download apps, and text or make calls. That's right! With a free app called text free you can text, or with a free app called fring and a 10 dollar microphone you can actually make calls with VOIP!
2 App Store: This built in application allows you to download thousands of free apps or buy others with an I tunes gift card or credit card!
3 Built in Speakers: This feature was especially great for me, I didn't need to untangle or carry around earphones for my ipod!
Overall, you can't go wrong with this iPod. It can replace your phone, computer, net book, PSP ...
Advantages: Signal strength is excellent; Price; Look; Ease of use Disadvantages: Might be hard to operate with large fingers; can be dangerous to use whilst driving
- I've seen some around £50 - but I do believe you get what you pay for, and as I only wanted a Sat Nav with UK maps on it (TomTom ONE Classic comes with Republic of Ireland maps too), it was a great price. You can get Sat Nav's with Europe maps too, but as my parents have one of these, I'd be able to borrow their Sat Nav when I drive abroad!
IN THE BOX, AND THE TOMTOM'S APPEARANCE
Included in the box were:
* The Sat Nav
* Car Charger
* Instructions
* USB Charger
The best thing about the TomTom ONE Classic is the fact you can connect it up to your laptop/PC to charge it. Before, I could only charge my old Sat Nav via my car's cigarette lighter, but thanks to the USB cable, you can now charge it via your PC. To be honest though, I've onlyever done this once! I think it's slightly easier to charge it whilst you're driving ...
Advantages: Tons of tracks, lots of great extras, digital remastering, good value considering its really 5 albums in one Disadvantages: You might already have most of this on separate CDs, expensive(ish), third CD ain't too great
. Also, you really won't need to buy another Clash album again, because this has all the best bits of their career, but of course this is a double-edged sword. If you have all the albums, there's very little you're going to find here, except for the booklet, unreleaseds and live songs, which are hardly worth the asking price on their own. As a futher note, there's also a reason why some tracks weren't released previously....crap tracks tend not to sell very well.
Overall though, if you're a hardcore fan who has to have everything, or you've got one or two albums and you want more Clash, you could do a lot worse than buy this album....in fact, it's probably the best purchase you'll make. ...
