I have to say that on my first run through of the album, I was somewhat unsure of whether I liked it or not. It's an album that you have to listen to more than once before jumping to any conclusions.
Amy Lee herself stated that she expects to lose some fans from the release of this album because it is 'so different' from their debut album, Fallen. The Open Door certainly is different, so I wouldn't expect a replica of the previous album. To say it is different though, by no means suggests that it is not as good as the first. The Open Door is a lyrical masterpiece; every song being unique and powerful. You can tell upon your first listen that it has been written by a truly gifted songwriter. Track list
Sweet Sacrifice The opening track of the album and it's a good one. It's such a strong song, and Amy's incredible voice booms over the amazing guitar riffs. It's their third single too, and I am pleased because this song is my ultimate favourite on this album 10/10
Call Me When You're Sober The first single from the album, and although it is spectacular, it does seem to appear out of place on the album. That doesn't mean it's not good though, because it's great.9/10
Weight of the World Amy wrote this song for her fans, so anyone can expect it to be meaningful and evocative. The song is one of the loudest on the album, though it can become quite tedious. It did with me anyway 7/10
Lithium Another favourite of mine. I find this song, lyric-wise, to be one of the band's best. Amy sings like she means it in this one, like she's putting everything into it. Wonderful song 10/10
Cloud Nine Now this is a rather haunting track, with the opening containing a haunting drone of singing voices which finally climaxes with a burst of guitars and drums. This song is one which probably sounds more mainstream compared to the others. It's a good one, with good lyrics, though many people find it rather annoying. 8/10
Snow White Queen This song is by no means one of the best on the album, but still fantastic. It begins quiet, and when the heavy guitars kick in get ready for three minutes of rocking, woo! I have to say, it's one of two songs on the album that I never quite clicked with 7/10
Lacrymosa Now, this song is FANTASTIC. Every time I listen to it I just want to play it again and again and sing at the top of my lungs like a mad-woman. With this song, Amy Lee has reinvented Mozart's 'Requiem' by changing into a powerful and almost chilling rock track. I love it; it's just so creative and unique 10/10
Like You If someone asked me to describe this song in one word I would have to say: harrowing. Amy wrote it for her deceased younger sister and it's the only song, along with 'My Immortal' that she will not perform at the band's concerts. It's a beautiful and yet sad song, full of emotional lyrics. 8/10
Lose Control I don't think you'll ever hear a song like this one. It's just bizarre. It's brilliant though… powerful and brilliant to be exact. The lyrics will leave you wondering, 'What the heck?' especially when Amy begins to sing twisted lyrics from 'Mary had a lamb'. It's strange, but just so great. 10/10
The Only One This is a song that I find rather confusing, because there are parts of it I like and others that I don't, which sometimes results in me skipping the song entirely. It's still good though, especially when the bridge kicks in. 7/10
Your Star Now this one took some getting used to. On my first listen, the beginning of the song forced me to skip the whole thing because I found it too darn annoying. Amy sings so high that it doesn't sound like she's singing; it's more like screeching. And I don't mean that as an insult, because as soon as the beginning is over, the song turns into utter brilliance. 8/10
All That I'm Living For This was originally going to be the band's third single, but they changed their minds to 'Sweet Sacrifice' after negative reactions from fans. I am so pleased, because I find this song to be the worst on the album. I think the chorus is to blame; I find it to be too whiny. The verses save the song though, and the song in its entirety is still good. 7/10
Good Enough Considering the rest of the songs on the album, I found it rather strange to find a song like this on here. It's a ballad and the lyrics are softer, and the song itself is sweet and innocent. I found it to be a nice way to end the album, since Amy wrote it for her fiancé. Note that the one minute or so introduction was going to be in the movie, 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' but it got rejected, so now it's in this song instead. I say yippee, because I love this song. 9/10
Overall, The Open Door is a fresh piece of uber greatness from the band that brought us the spectacular 'Fallen'. One thing I would say though is that if you are going to buy this album expecting it to be like Evanescence's first one, you are WRONG. It couldn't be more different. And it's different in a good way without a shadow of a doubt. Evanescence has succeeded in writing a powerful and moving album, though its lyrics aren't as catchy as those from Fallen.
Advantages: Brillant stuff Disadvantages: one or two lacking tracks
...band (Although I wouldn't put the gothic in there') First released their debut album 'Fallen' in 2003 and followed that up with their live DVD 'Anywhere But Home' in 2004. In 2006 with Wind-UP Records they released this album 'The Open Door.'
In my oppinion it is a great album, although I do prefer their previous album 'Fallen'.
Their tracks 'Lithium' and 'Call Me When You're Sober' both have Music video's which are to a great standard.

This is an excellent track with a superb video, its worth checking out on youtube.
It starts off with Amy singing and a few piano notes then the guitar, bass and drums are bought in and the track really picks up from there. Amy sings the lyrics with a flawless voice and leaves you ...

Advantages: Great songs, great vocals, lovely album cover Disadvantages: "Your Star"
...When I found out in the summer that they had a new album coming out, I could barely wait until October, and scoured the internet searching for pre-release reviews of the long-awaited record.
And when I finally got it, I was not disappointed. I enjoyed it on the first listen through, but on the second and then the third (and so on), I loved it! A lot of the songs are very good, and in my view, there's only one track that lets the album down, which ... ...I was quite surprised at the response from the reviewers and the comments received, and I seem to be alone in my view that this was a great album! Nevertheless, I shall continue with this review in an effort to give my thoughts on this CD.
**Cover and Packaging**

When co-founder Ben Moody departed the Evanescence team in late 2004, questions were asked as to whether goth-lite princess Amy Lee could steady the ship alone. After all, Moody was the genius behind 2003/4 uber-hits 'Bring Me To Life' and 'My Immortal' (musically, that is). The intrigue was bolstered by Lee's talk pre-release that this was the album 'I'd wanted to make all along', and how it was on a level more personal to herself, free of Moody's ... ...the bands 2006 sophomore album, 'The Open Door', the baying public finally have some answers…
The Open Door is indeed a more personal record for Ms Lee, but not how it'd surely been intended. Lead single 'Call Me When You're Sober' - a kiss-off to ex-boyfriend (and Seether vocalist) Shaun Morgan - is as pretentious as anything Fallen had seen 3 years prior. Self indulgent to almost breaking point, the clichéd as hell lyrics and overly generic backing ...

Advantages: More mature than the previous album Fallen Disadvantages: Sometimes guitars go over Lee's voice
...Amy Lee's band (Evanescence) sets the par well above standard with this fantastic Gothic anthem. A mixture of heavy guitar fueled songs with light melancholic ballads keep this album alive through intense emotions such as anger, bitterness and solitude. The Open Door however is much more mature and profound than Fallen, with more of the songs being meaningful.

...Going Under and My Immortal. The Open Door although very different from it's predecessor Fallen still maintains the brilliant chugging guitars, piano driven rock, haunting lyrics and of course Amy Lee's angelic voice. Despite the lost of two of the key song writers Ben Moody and David Hodges, Amy Lee has taken over the reins (along with Terry Balsamo) with grace creating a more personal and flawless album than the last. This album is very much (as ... ...experiences to her alone adorning the cover (once again) to her overpoweringly superb vocal skills. The concept of having one leader of a band in which so many have struggled with works brilliantly for Evanescence and Amy.

acoustic version. It opens with the twanging of the acoustic guitar, with Amy's vocals taking main stage. The arrangement and general sound of the song is not much changed from the Nirvana version, and whilst not a favourite of mine, is still a pleasant enough listen.
**Overall**
Overall, this is an amazing CD. It's different enough from Fallen and The OpenDoor to be interesting to Evanescence fans, but some of the usual traits do feature. This CD has now been taken out of the shops, and so the only place you'll find it are online auction sites, and possibly an obscure car boot sale.
However, if you do have the opportunity to get a copy, I'd definitely recommend doing so. Of the three CD's I own by Evanescence, this is by far my favourite, and is leaps and bounds ahead of Fallen and The OpenDoor. ...
