Shelves may be groaning under the weight of the dozens of chillout/smooth/calm classical ... more
compilations available but they are going to have to make room for another,The Very Best of Relaxing Classics. A quick glance at the tracklisting reveals the usual suspects--Pachelbel'sCanon in D, Barber'sAdagio for Stringsand the slow movement of Rachmaninov'sPiano Concerto No.2. But it's not all predictable. Liszt'sConsolation No.3, a poignant piano miniature, is most welcome as is Elgar'sSospirifor strings, harp and organ. Many of the pieces have become well known by being used in films and television programmes as well as for adverts: witness the Intermezzo from Mascagni's operaCavalleria rusticana(Raging Bulland Kleenex), "Morning" from Peer Gynt by Grieg (Nescafé), John Tavener's haunting choral piece The Lamb (Orange) and the glorious Adagio (although, sadly, only an extract) from Schubert'sString Quint! et in C(Inspector Morse). Slightly puzzling is the inclusion of two versions of Puccini's much-loved "O mio babbino caro" from his opera Gianni Schicchi--an instrumental version provides the first track and the compilation concludes with the original (featuring the divine Renée Fleming). --Rebecca Agnew

Advantages: Eight Good tracks. Disadvantages: Twenty naff tracks.
) Fascination
More of a dance type tune from HL, quite a strange offering, very new romantic, not for me. 4/10.
7.The Lebanon
Love this, the philospohical side of new romance, I remember Spndau Ballet, Visage and OMD doing similar social conscience type tracks. 8/10. That is 5-2 as keepers
8.Life On Your Own
5-3, yuk. 2/10.
9.Together In Electric Dreams
5-4 From a film, can't remember which, anyway, not for me.
10.Louise
6-4. Oh yes, this is better, for me the best HL track of all, along with songs like the Streets (Dry your eyes) and Elvis Costello (I Want You), one of the all time classic 'break up' songs, the music is catchy and just fits and the vocals are a lament, morose yet joyful, pure brilliance 10/10.
11.Human
Too accomplished, Duran Duran on hot chocolate, yuk. 1/10. My tally now stands at 6 keepers and 5 throwers, not ...
Advantages: The best of Blacksteet Disadvantages: Could have had a couple more?
into solid slow jams that people can relax to, great voices of gospel background and no frills.
17 tracks of good standard and good price make this well worth purchasing instead of the albums, trust me i have them all!
1 - Baby be Mine - Track taken from the Blacksteet first album
2 - Booti Call - Just coming out the new jack swing era
3 - Before I Let You Go - First Blackstreet song i heard and a proper slow jam. one to put on in the background with a romantic meal!
4 - Joy - Great harmonies in a song about new additions to their families, touching video also.
5 - Fallin In Love Again - Another sold slow jam
6 - Tonights The NIght - See above!
7 - No Diggity - probably their most popular tune to date featuring Dr Dre & Queen Pen
8 - Billie Jean - A good rendition of jacksons classic
9 - Never Gonna Let You Go - Similar to ...
Advantages: A large selection of great tracks Disadvantages: Just a couple of bad ones thrown in, but it all really depends on your taste
Before I start can I just say that I have never tried to review a CD before so please cut me some slack!!!
I first heard this CD in a music lesson. We had to practice our listening skills because part of the music exam is a listening section, where you have to listen to a piece of music and write about it. Our teacher played a couple of pieces of this CD, and I instantly wanted it!
I ordered it off a website and the day after it arrived, I was so pleased that I could listen to all the tracks myself.
When the cover of the box says The best cinema classics ever, it really does mean the VERYbest cinema classics ever.
This is a double CD pack, and to be honest, it is pretty impossible for you not to recognize at least one film or piece of music on the CD's. If you think you have seen a great film with great music, there is ...
