Therion are an excelent band i love them and have most of their albums including vovin, deggial, crowin of atlantis but i think secret of the runes is their best. If you havnt heard them before i think the only way to describe them is opera rock / metal, they have an orcestra, violins, guitars and quite a few diferent singers so you wont get bored with the same vioce. a couple of the songs have this funky singer where they do a sher like effect on him sounds awsome "sand man".
if you like this try searching for:
epica
nightwish
lacuna coil
apcolyptica
and within temptation
they are similar to therion all operatic rock / metal but original in their own ways and just as good ...
Advantages: Plenty of catchy riffs, solid production, great fun Disadvantages: Not very original

Advantages: Some nice stand out songs, emotional-driven songs. Disadvantages: Changes style to adapt to mainstream, some songs too long, Operatic singer turned down.

The difference between these bands and Nightwish is that Nightwish has a very powerful operatic singer. They are mainly responsible for the creation of the subgenre of Symphonic power metal in Symphonic metal.
Right, this album- Once which was released back in 2004 after their successful albums of Wishmaster and Oceanborn. The album topped the charts in Germany, Norway and Greece and entered the charts in the UK for the first time. This album proves to be quite accessible this time unlike the others.
