Another superb drive in to work this morning the sun was shining, the sky was blue and I was happily singing along reliving my mis-spent youth as usual – thought I’d share it with you all!!!!!

The Who Then and Now was a cheapie buy at Asda a while back - £2-99 what a bargain!!!
I remember the days when I went to their concerts and watched Keith Moon battering his drums to death whilst I was swooning over Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend! A Hippy with Rock Chick tendencies that’s me – what a combination!
This morning we start with ‘I can’t explain’ recorded in 1964 – not a personal favourite and ... ...was only a 10 year old when it came out.
Track 2 is ‘My Generation’ recorded in 1965 – it was probably my brothers fault that I developed a stutter whilst singing along – and I’m still doing it this morning….
‘Why don’t you all fffffffade away, don’t try to dig what we all sssssay’
Track 3 ‘The kids are alright’ 1965 and we certainly were…. I’m sure its not good for my durashift gear change this foot-tapping. more

This morning we start with ‘I can’t explain’ recorded in 1964 – not a personal favourite and not for me as good as later stuff but I was only a 10 year old when it came out.
Track 4 ‘Substitute’ 1966 What a track this is! ‘I look pretty tall but my heels are high The simple things you say are all complicated I look pretty young but I’m just backdated, Yeah!’
That’s me that is!!!!!
Track 5 ‘I’m a Boy’ 1966 – what can I say –this is one crazy mixed up kid: ‘My name is Bill and I’m a headcase In fact there’s make up on my face I’m lucky if I get trousers to wear…. I’m a boy I’m a boy but my Ma won’t admit it I’m a boy I’m a boy and if I say I am I get it!’
Fantastic to sing along too as my fellow motorists are noticing!
Track 6 ‘Happy Jack’ 1966 Always a favourite in my youth but it doesn’t grab me today somehow must have grown up a bit?
Track 7 ‘I Can See For Miles’ 1967 – this is the one that makes me want to skip through the cd till it comes on – but I am resisting this morning:
‘I know you deceive me, now here’s a surprise I know that you have ‘cos there’s magic in my eyes I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles’
Ooooooh I’m getting goosebumps – what brilliant stuff!
Track 8 ‘Magic Bus’ 1968 my funky little fiesta has turned into a Magic Bus with a manic redhead rattling out the lyrics ‘Now I got my Magic Bus!!!’.
Track 9 ‘Pinball Wizard’ 1969 from ‘Tommy’ their rock opera, I loved that and still have it on vinyl.
‘That deaf dumb and blind boy….. sure plays a mean pinball Ain’t got no distraction, can’t hear no buzzers and bells Don’t see no lights a flashin Plays by sense of smell Always get the replay never seen him fall That deaf dumb and blind boy….. sure plays a mean pinball’
Track 10 ‘See me Feel Me’1969 Again from Tommy – wait lets turn it up …. It makes shivers go down my spine and always will – that haunting voice…
‘See Me Feel me Touch me Heal me….’
Imagine this being sung at the ever so famous Woodstock festival as the sun rose over the crowd – real spine chilling stuff!
Track 11 ‘Summertime Blues’ 1970 just a concert song stolen from Eddie Cochran and doesn’t have a place here in my humble opinion.
Track 12 ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ 1971 Yes it is that one that has been covered by Limp Biskit since, my daughter didn’t believe me!
‘No- one knows what its like to be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes
No-one knows what its like to be hated To be fated To telling only lies’
Track 13 ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’1971 Brilliant rockin stuff….magic!
Tracks 14 thru 16 are not personal favourites although my brother would shout if he knew that I always skip them – they are ‘5:15’ 1973, ‘Love, Reign O’er Me’ 1973 and ‘Squeeze Box’ 1975 – or maybe it was my age at the time and I didn’t relate to them.
Track 17 ‘Who are You?’1977 and Keith Moons last single – he died in September 1978. But the manic memories linger on!
Track 18 ‘You Better You Bet’ 1980 ‘When I say I love you – you say you better… You better you better you bet You better bet your life’ Stirring stuff and a big favourite of mine today!!
Track 18 ‘Real Good Looking Boy’ 2003/2004
What musicians Townshend and Daltrey are – love the ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ bit in the middle.
Track 19 ‘Old Red Wine’ 2004 - written for ex band member the late John Entwhistle – bless him!!! And still good music from a wonderful band that appear to be time travelling with the best of us!!!!
Sorry I’ve gone on a bit – thanks for reading if you got this far... Peace and Love, Kate
Advantages: Includes Every Who hit plus two new songs Disadvantages: The two new songs are average
The Who. Four members, two dead, one questioned over internet paedophilia and one a bit handy with his fists who once played Chesney Hawkes' dad in a film called "Buddy". It shouldn't work, but it does. THIS IS, AFTER ALL, THE WHO!
If it wasn't for 1996's "Who's Better Who's Best" and 2002's "The Ultimate Collection", this would have been a great idea, but three best ofs in eight years smells a little of sell out. However, they ARE headlining this ... ...been released to coincide with that and help recruit a younger audience.
The usual suspects are included: the stuttering "My Generation", the proto-Brit Pop "I Can't Explain", the dire "Squeeze Box" (about an accordion), "I Can See For Miles", "Substitute" and the comeback 1980 single - and best of the bunch - "You Better You Bet".
Who fans, of course, will already own most these tracks and the two new tracks "Old Red Wine" and "Real Good Looking ...

Advantages: You can see the concert on DVD Disadvantages: You get a lot of audience shots and documentary
time in a while I was amazed at the orchestration that comes in to such good effect after the first few lines. In this lovely performance of one of the most famous songs in the world, Paul uses the original guitar he played on the Eddie Sullivan show in the early 60s. Great sound on it! Couples hug, girls who weren?t even born then are moved to tears. Genius moments.

Now this couldn?t possibly be done live could it? Well ? they don?t have all the animals and the swirling orchestration from the original album, but otherwise it clearly can.
Abe Laboriel Jr not only reproduces the drum solo Ringo did, but improves on it. McCartney, Ray and Anderson do the competing lead solos, up to, ?And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.?
