'There Is Nothing Left to Lose' is the third album from the American rock band that is the Foo Fighters. The album was released through RCA Records in 1999 and features my personal favourite Foo Fighters track that is 'Breakout'. There are a number of Foo Fighters tracks that I absolutely love, 'Breakout' is my very favourite of them all however and every time I hear the track I smile. 'There Is Nothing Left to Lose' features eleven tracks and this therefore provides for 46 minutes of music. 'The Colour and the Shape' is the bands best album by far in my opinion, this one certainly still contains a number of excellent tracks however and I therefore often quite enjoy listening to this fine album from the band.

The music is not consistently excellent throughout this album, a number of tracks do however highly appeal to me here and those that stand out most strongly from this release are those of 'Breakout', 'Stacked Actors', and closing track 'M.I.A.' also. The reason I originally gave this album a listen was because a friend of mine suggested that I'd love 'Stacked Actors' and therefore lent me this album to see what I thought. He was certainly right about 'Stacked Actors', it's the first track on this album and is absolutely brilliant. The track is just over four minutes in length and features some fine instrumental work and a strong vocal tone also. The vocals of Dave Grohl are smoothly spoken here, the instrumental accompaniment is excellent and nothing about this track disappoints in the slightest. It's a great track for the band to begin this album with, one that certainly starts this release on a high and as the album continues the fine tunes further flow.

'Breakout' possesses such an infectious chorus, the guitar work also is stunning here and never do I tire of hearing the track. Every time I hear this track my love for it increases, it's a fine rock track and one that I highly recommend to everyone. Such power is attained by the band here, it's a brilliant piece of music and I fail to find fault with the track whatsoever. 'M.I.A.' on the other end provides this album with an absolutely fantastic finish, it's another of my favourite Foo Fighters tracks and a definite highlight from this 'There Is Nothing Left to Lose' album. Always Foo Fighters albums seem to possesses fantastic opening/closing tracks, never do the bands openers/closers disappoint and you just know when the band brings out a new album that with two tracks at least you're going to be in for a treat.

The inconsistent nature of this album is really quite disappointing, whilst there are some absolute highs there are also some definite lows. With the tracks I've outlined the band gets the music spot on; the guitar work is excellent and the vocals also are exquisitely put across in the sound, all too often here however the music of the Foo Fighters fails to really ignite. The sound created is not bad as such, it just lacks passion and there's a lack of intensity and drive showcased on the behalf of the band. The vocals often sound more than just a little half hearted, instrumentally the sound created by the band never disappoints but vocally there are some horribly bland moments on the behalf of the bands lead vocalist Dave Grohl. He just seems a little reluctant to give it his all at times, there's a definite feeling that the man is holding back and the tracks created by the band here are therefore not as strong as they could and perhaps should be.

This is not a bad album from the Foo Fighters, there are some incredibly strong tracks present here but there are also a number of others that are really quite disappointing. 'Breakout', 'Stacked Actors', and 'M.I.A.' are definitely well worth listening to, not much else shines through in the bands sound here however and for the most part the music created by the Foo Fighters here is really rather average. Dave Grohl's vocal passion is at times a little lacking, this I feel detracts away from the overall quality of the bands sound but instrumentally the music always has much to offer. It's my belief that 'Breakout' is the best track that the band has ever written, this is one track which is certainly well worth listening to but much of the rest of this album from the band is really quite sorely disappointing. Give this album a listen if you love that Foo Fighters sound, for the bands best album I would however look to the 1997 release 'The Colour and the Shape'.

Loving the Foo's at the moment, some really good tracks on this album, some not so good too though...but isn't that the same with most albums these days. :-) x
