Album Notes: Alt-folk troubadours Vetiver's third LP 'A Thing Of The Past' is comprised entirely of cover versions, ranging from the sublime (Townes Van Zandt) to the ridiculous (Hawkwind). Band leader Andy Cabic effectively compiles a definitive list of his band's biggest and most potent influences, some of which are a little surprising. Labelmate and previous collaborator Vashti Bunyan also makes a contribution to the record, as well as friend of the band Michael Hurley. 'A Thing Of The Past', like previous Vetiver records, showcases Cabic's delicate voice and the virtuosity of his increasingly impressive band.
Advantages: Some fantastic singles, album filler and B-sides Disadvantages: A few naff tracks and many that you will certainly already own
...Volume Two'. Whilst compilation albums are good things for newer fans, it can be a bit pointless getting those most of the time, if you already own the biggest majority of the tracks. None the less, there were several on here that I had yet to even listen to and remixes of some tracks with a guy called Billy Preston so I was happy to get this as a part of my ever growing CD collection.
TRACKLISTING
Released in 1988, 'Past Masters Volume Two' boasts a real mix of tracks, from album fillers to B-sides and some of the Fab Four's greatest hits. There are many that are undeniably some of the bands best work and some that are a bit so and so but, as this is a compilation CD, that is certainly not something to be surprised about:
1. Day Tripper
2. We Can Work It Out
3. Paperback Writer
4. Rain
5. Lady Madonna
6. The Inner Light
7. Hey...

Advantages: It's the Beatles, previously unavailable on CDs, no bad tracks Disadvantages: none
..., and this is one of my favorites of the Beatles' rock songs. It was originally released as the B side of the "Help!" single.
Because "Past Masters Volume One" is basically a collection of singles, most of the songs on here have a pop feel to them. This is not a bad thing at all (I mean, it IS the Beatles), but if you are looking for songs with more meaning, this is not the CD for you. That being said, there is not one bad track on here, and even the B sides are fantastic. This also comes with a nice booklet containing information about all the songs. Like all Beatles CDs, highly recommended....

Advantages: Contains only 11 songs Disadvantages: lacks originality
...for us next, all the way through to the final in which he lost against Country-Babe Carrie Underwood.
And what a joy it was to see him performing songs as the Allman Brothers "Whipping Post",Blood, Sweat & Tears "Spinning Wheel", Jim Croce's "Time in a bottle",...!
Always true to his style and his roots he blew us away with "Sweet Home Alabama" , which he sung together with Lynyrd Skynyrd and his Southern Blues was such a refreshment in comparison to all the other contestants who were still struggling through the 100. re-make of "My hero".
He seemed to live and breathe his music down until the tips of his long flying hair.
So Carrie was the better singer but her performances were robotic and about as exciting to watch as the rinsing programme on my washing machine.
So it turned out that he had a little drug problem in the past...
