This Moloko album is as addictive as chocolate…

At first I thought the album was very strange and bizarre, and if you're new to Moloko I can guarantee that you will too. But I gave it a few more chances before I got a refund and now it's one of the privileged CDs that regularly spins in my CD player.

So what's so bizarre about Moloko? I'd say it's the sax that keeps popping up in the background, the obscure but enjoyable keyboard, the samples (that I'm convinced have been taken from Commodore 64 games like Ghosts and Goblins) and the complete unpredictability of their songs. But it's Roisin's voice that finishes off the picture; the way it can be soothing one minute as in Absent Minded Friends and Being is Bewildering and then intruding the next where she yells in the up beat song Indigo "Rameses, Colossus"! I'm not one for singing (because I can't!) but listening to this album makes me want to dance, laugh, scream and sing at the top of my lungs; listening to this album turns me into a Pure Pleasure Seeker!

I bought this album because I loved The Time is Now (especially the unbelievably funky bass) and this song complements the album and uplifts it to new heights. However, Moloko's other chart success Sing It Back has little contribution and seems like a lost limb shoved on the end, so if you're a big fan of this song, don't expect an album full of this sort of stuff... expect to be bewildered by more exhilarating music.

If you're thinking of buying it, I urge you to straight away. Be aware of its unconventionality, but you'll love it within a few listens. And even if you can't get your head round the obscurity of some of the tunes, the inlay is very interesting and shows you some ideas of Things to Make and Do.
