The two most memorable aspects of director Carol Reed's 1949 adaptation of Graham Greene's ... more
post-War Vienna-based mystery Third Man are prime examples of the paradoxical power of cinematic myth. Orson Welles, the actor most identified with the film, has little more than a cameo in it, while the musical theme of his character (Harry Lime)--an infectiously jaunty tune played on the zither--became an international pop repertoire icon for a half-century, even if it was almost always incorrectly labeled "The Third Man Theme". Reed's decision to eschew an orchestra for the solo zither performances of Anton Karas was a pioneering one, though the Viennese-born musician originally didn't receive credit as composer and despite the enduring global impact of his music, would never compose for films again. This marks the first digital recording of the landmark score, performed here with an uncanny ear for Karas' original inflections by award-winning Bavarian soloist Gertrud Huber--all the more remarkable considering Karas' original session performances were largely ad-libbed. Karas' sprightly melodies are as timeless and internationally evocative as ever, supplemented here by dialog snippets of the film and orchestrated versions of the "Harry Lime" and "Café Mozart" themes that only serve to underscore the singular power of the original's solo intentions. --Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com

Advantages: Excellent Movie Sountrack. Disadvantages: None!
REASONS FOR PURCHASING:
St Elmo?s' Fire is one of my all time favourite movies that I really had great pleasure in watching in 1986. I really was thrilled when I first saw this excellent, star studded movie and was highly impressed with the soundtrack and all of the great songs that where played throughout it. I purchased this soundtrack a few years later after watching St Elmo's Fire, as I really thought all the songs chosen for the movie really helped it to be the big success it was. The Theme tune to St Elmo?s Fire was an excellent choice by producer David Foster. It is called "Man In Motion" and was performed by John Parr. The theme tune to St Elmo's Fire is played in little stages, instrumentally in this movie and it gradually builds up to an excellent song that?s performed by "The Great" John Parr near the end of the final ...
Advantages: Brings back all the best bits of the film. Disadvantages: None that I know.
WOW! I love the film, and this soundtrack is absolutely amazing as well. Throughout the soundtrack I just want to get up and dance - and sometimes I do... LOL.
It's the whole standing in front of a mirror with the hairbrush CD. If you're a big fan of the film like me, then this is the perfect CD as you know all of the words off by heart without even realising it!
Everyone loves Patrick Swayze, and he sings track 3 (She's Like The Wind). It gives me goosebumps every time!
What makes this soundtrack even better is the price. For less than a fiver there's all the fun of the film! It'll get you dancing before you know it! Although you'll wish you were dancing with Patrick rather than on your own. LOL. ...
Advantages: beautiful music to a great film, very touching, cheap Disadvantages: carelessly made booklet, weird extra track
of gold and red as
you can see in the picture. The writing "Alexander - Original Motion Picture
Soundtrack by Vangelis" looks like gold, with the words "Alexander" and "Vangelis"
being bigger than the rest.
The back of the CD has the tracklist on it, next to a picture of Alexander in battle on
his horse.
The booklet is basicly a long piece of paper folded four times. On the first page there
is a photgraph of Vangelis with the information that all the music has been composed,
arranged, produced and performed by him. In the lower corner of this pages we
get some more information on people who contributed to the songs because
some other instruments played by other musicians are featured in a few tracks.
There is also information on the recording staff and studio,
On the next two pages the tracks are listed again and there is more information ...
