The Album opens with 'The Package', which begins the journey into the album, a mellow beginning to the song, yet as we progress further as we've come to expect from APC song's, it kicks into over-drive, and we have a heavy song beginning. 'Weak and Powerless' (track 2) is one you should recognise along with 'The Oustider' (track 7) as they have both been released, and may I say a cracking video for both. 'The Noose' (track 3) is quite a sad track which, once again, begins in a quiet manner and then extends into amazing 'rocking-outness'. Vocals on this track are amazing once again. Blue (track 4) is one they could/should have released. At 4:12sec. it's the prefect length to put out there on MTV2 or Scuzz shall we say? Tracks like 'Vanishing' (track 5), 'Crimes' (track 8) and 'Lullaby' (track 11) deliver us some cracking musical work; very melodic and quite heavy at points (ref. to Vanishing). Keenan's vocal work on all are outstanding. 'The Nurse Who Loved Me' (track 9) is a track that should be noted and loved. It's a cover of Failure's track of the same title. I personally prefer this version; great strings used and a GREAT song to listen to if you're mad and need to mellow out lol. This track actually reminds me alot of The Beatles 'Good Night' (from the White Album), same type of music and same type of repetition of chords. 'Pet' (track 10) and 'Gravity' (track 12) are both two great heavy tracks. 'Pet' is especially a good 'head-banger'
I cannot say many bad things about this album. I love it! I can't compare it to 'Mer de Noms' as the music is totally different for me. Although it does seem as if they have progressed slightly into, well, musical excellence!
'The Nurse Who Loved Me' is probably my favorite track. It's a funny song if you can work out the lyrics and yet quite a strange and sad song... Confused? lol. You'll have to check it out for yourself.
A great buy for advanced music lovers (ones amoungst you who can appreciate time signature changes and melody shifts) and people just starting out in this genre!
Advantages: Lyrical/musical complexity, quality of production Disadvantages: Not what fans of the band would have expected, copy protected (i.e. it's a lot of hassle to get it onto your iPod)
