Advantages: Fierce, delicate, enchantin g.All that Kate Bush is loved and admired for encapsulated in this album Disadvantages: You stare at the cover hating youself for not looking as sexy as she does!
Lionheart (1978) is really a beautiful addition the KateBush collection. The sexy album cover and lyrics like 'the more that I think of sex the better it gets' hints at the real bravery buried in this album. It's no suprise with songs like "Oh England My Lionheart", that this album did really well in England and not so well in the US.
KateBush's vocals really do leap and dance around the music in this enchanting album. But dont be fooled by her butterfly like delicate voice, for lurking deep inside Kate is a woman who throws out lyrics heavy with ferocity like 'he's too busy hitting the vaseline' in the brilliant song WOW!
This album really is amazing to listen to as its so intricate and detailed with surprises and points of interest lurking in every crevice of itself. You could really keep listening to it over and over ...
Advantages: Almost perfect album, improved seperation of sounds in remastered form. Disadvantages: One or two slightly weaker tracks.
. Quite a long track at nearly six minutes but in the conventional style of piano, gorgeous harmonies but with Irish/Gaelic instrumental elements. The last section changes tack completely with almost imperceptible strings and low choral work.
12. The Morning Fog. The album finishes with a medium paced number although it sounds racy after track 11. More emotion charged vocals tell a story of love over guitar and fairly conventional beats. A perfect end to what is probably KateBush's best work to date even if it does finish rather suddenly.
This edition adds some bonus material:
1. The Big Sky (MeTeorological mix). This 7 and a half minute version adds an initially antipodean feel to the original version but soon turns in to a fairly generic 12" mix. Quite nice though.
2. Running up that Hill (12" mix). A more radical restructuring ...
Advantages: Radical, ingenious compositions and arrangements, a motherlode of invention! Disadvantages: Not for everyone; as with Kate's other albums, TIME will reveal the surreal beauty of these works.
radically gorgeous work (as my fickle inner musical advisor tells me).
The final word: The Dreaming is an absolutely obligatory buy for longtime KateBush fans and for the more adventurous new listeners out there, but may just scare off non-KB veterans. Initial fright and puzzlement are almost guaranteed. It's best to listen to this album with ears, hearts and minds receptive at all levels-- musical, emotional, intellectual--and lo, what rich harvests you'll reap for your efforts. It?s only one of the genuine and influential classics in the modern pop-rock repertory.
