Thornography [PA] - Cradle Of Filth

Advantages: Smooth transitions between songs, brilliant lyrics, good guitar
Disadvantages: The songs go on for a long time

This was the first ever Cradle of Filth album that I bought. It starts out with an instrumental introduction and then progresses smoothly onto the first song, which is Dirge Inferno. The songs each have a great beat to them and the guitar and drums are played impeccably well. They are very different to some of Cradle and Filth's earlier releases, but they still manage to carry a unique sound. There are 12 tracks on this CD, they are: 1.] Under ...

Advantages: Unfortunaely, there's not much better around!

What has happened to COF? They burst onto the scene with some ferocious black metal and somehow became a fusion of death metal and pop. There's no doubting that they can produce great, original music, but have not done so now for a few years - the most recent album to stand up to scrutiny being the underrated Damnation And A Day. From the sporadic highs and originality of Midian to the excellent Nymphetamine, they only seem capable of producing ...
...CD with fillers. Unforunately, this latest offering does not even boast one great track. I appreciate the effort in Temptation and I like the fact that they are still trying to push the boundaries and hope they continue, but, franlkly it is awful! Such a shame for a once great band. Advantages: Something new and different. Harder and more openly brutal sound
Disadvantages: Somewhat crude and unrefined

...they will not be disappointed. Thornography has a tendency to sound less refined as their previous albums, it lacks finesse. However tracks such as "Rise Of The Pentagram" show what this album is truly about, hard hitting and frontal attacks with the beautiful and tender sounds of traditional classical instruments, although this track has a minimal amount of lyrics it still proves the bands brilliance.
