This was the first ever Cradle of Filth album that I bought. It starts out with an instrumental introduction and then progresses smoothly onto the first song, which is Dirge Inferno.
The songs each have a great beat to them and the guitar and drums are played impeccably well. They are very different to some of Cradle and Filth's earlier releases, but they still manage to carry a unique sound.
There are 12 tracks on this CD, they are: 1.] Under pregnant skies she comes alive like miss leviathan 2.] Dirge inferno 3.] Tonight in flames 4.] Libertina Grimm 5.] The byronic man 6.] I am the thorn 7.] Cemetery and sundown 8.] Lovesick for Mina 9.] The foetus of a new day kicking 10.] Rise of the pentagram 11.] Under huntress moon 12.] Temptation
Technically 'Rise of the pentagram' is a poem with a musical backing, but it still carries all the charisma of the other songs on the CD. 'Temptation' is a cover version of a song by Heaven 17, which was a group in the 80s. Cradle of Filth's more updated version manages to turn a pop classic into a heavier, modern rock track without diluting the quality of the song.
The song 'Huntress Moon' is a more obvious duet than other songs where the female vocallist takes part, and it really gives her a chance to show off her amazing voice.
In the store where I bought the CD, I was amazed at the price. If I remember correctly, it only cost £6.95 which is a great price considering that in this modern money-obsessed world, copyrighting gives way to extortionate prices way beyond £20 in some cases.
The cover art is wonderfully creepy, as it always is with Cradle of Filth. The macabre art style is both detailed and relevent to the content of the songs. Inside the Inlay there is a picture on every other page, and from the start right up until the finish each one is detailed and precise.
Compared to other bands from the same genre, Cradle of Filth are amoung the elite. They were formed in 1991 which makes them a fairly old band by musical standards and they are very well known. I think in this case it's definitely alright to say that they have continued a high standard while recording this album.
