Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (Parental Advisory) [PA] - My Chemical Romance

Advantages: A couple of top quality tracks.
Disadvantages: The album is largely lacklustre.

The band have been going since 2001 and are an extremely popular worldwide phenomenon having had great success with this album and with their latest 'The Black Parade' release also. ...of You'. The 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge' begins with the single 'Helena', an explosive start to the album which sets up nicely the listener expectations for the rest of the release. While this is by no means my favourite track of the album, it is admittedly still a decent offering which shows My Chemical Romance to be extremely strong at what they do, and that is creating catchy Rock music. The back of the book says, "The story of a man, a woman, and the corpses of a thousand evil men." As is usual with My Chemical Romance, this album could be interpreted in many ways. ...song was dedicated to Gerard Way's Grandma. This explains the line, "can you hear me, are you near me" and "so long and goodnight". I found this song to be about a lost love, who maybe died in a car crash, hence the line "we'll meet again when both our cars collide". I love this song. Give 'em Hell Kid - Apparently this song is about teenage pregnancy. I never interpreted it as such. It does seem to mean a child who has gone far from their parents, ... Read review

The artwork on the front of the album hugeley attracted me, it was a cartoon of a couple about to kiss, however the females head appears to have been sewed back on and they are both bleeding. Advantages: some great songs! high-energy punk
Disadvantages: a bit "samey"

This, the second album from US goth-punks My Chemical Romance, has been the album that made them famous, giving them their first big hit "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)." It's a vaguely conceptual album, something to do with the story of an assassin who comes back from the dead to find his love. Opener "Helena" is brilliant and one of the best moments of the album, sounding like a total classic all the way through. It starts off quiet and a bit spooky, ...
...Kid" is a fast rush of pop-punk adrenalin all the way through, while "To The End" is darker with murderous intent and a staccatto riff. "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison" gives an atmosphere of old gangster movies before bursting into their trademark punk sound after 42 seconds and getting shouty and desperate, with a quieter break followed by a wailing guitar solo, then going back to typical MCR. After discovering that My Chemical Romance weren't The Used as I first thought them to be when I didn't see who the artist was in the video for "I'm Not Okay [I Promise]" first came to my attention, I decided to pursue them. So, after going on a website to hear short clips of each of the songs, I decided to buy the album. Awesome. The first song of the album "Helena" is said to be about Gerard's [the lead singer] grandmother. It's such a fantastic ...
...it in no time, with the lyrics being clever, catchy and easy to learn. A very deceiving beginning as you believe it is going to be very depressing, but then the drum kicks in and your head just has to move with it. Can you say amazing? That's what this song is.
