...is the next best thing.The Tipping Point is the Roots' second mainstream album, the first being the critically acclaimed Phrenology. Before then, The Roots had been making albums that never hit big except within dedicated hip-hop circles. In my opinion, the earlier Roots albums were revolutionary and it's a shame that with Tipping Point, they have started to lose their unique sound.
The title refers to the point at which change is manifest in different ... ...Having said that. the Tipping Point is not as revolutionary as the others. Some have said that Tipping Point is too commercialised and too normal. But I later realised that Tipping Point wasn't about revolutionising hip-hop but rather a tirbute to the history of hip-hop. Throughout the album, ?uestlove and Blackthought (the MC) showcases the various sounds of hip-hop that have come to pass in its rich history. From the old school "Web" and "Boom!" ...
