The Heat - Toni Braxton
After a nearly four-year absence from recording, Toni Braxton returns with The Heat, her

third album. Full of drama--sometimes melodrama--it unsurprisingly puts Braxton's rich voice and command of nuance front and centre of one state-of-the-art track after another. Unfortunately, The Heat plays up her taste for ballads to such a point that the disc bores itself into a quiet-storm rut. The big exception is the Rodney-Jerkins-produced first single "He Wasn't Man Enough". The song's smouldering rebuff and Jerkins's measured funk make a perfect match for Braxton's matter-of-fact hauteur. She also delivers a tough take on reality with "Just Be a Man About It", which pits her against Dr. Dre in a breakup scenario that carries much more force than weightless trifles such as the filler sex-me-up "The Art of Love" and Diane Warren's "Spanish Guitar". --Bob Roget
Snowflakes - Toni Braxton
Jumping high heels first into the Christmas genre, Toni Braxton's Snowflakes is a

spectacular first effort. Teetering into smooth jazz territory, Braxton gives her sophisticated, breathy vocals a workout on this untraditional Yuletide collection. Instead of revamping old holiday standards, Braxton has co-written seven new songs--along with husband Keri "Mint Condition" Lewis, her sister Tamar, David Foster, and Kenny "Baby Face" Edmonds--and has created what sounds more like a proper Toni Braxton album than it does a seasonal offering. When Braxton did decide to cover a classic, she choose more contemporary tunes such as perennial favourite "The Christmas Song", which she revives with aplomb and crisp pacing and the beloved "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", which she doesn't tinker with at all. Braxton also pulls Charlie Brown's "Christmas Time Is Here" out of mothballs and gives it a contemplative, melancholy spin that serves the tune well. "Snowflakes of Love", is penned by Braxton and Lewis and uses the same instrumental that Memphis soul giant Isaac Hayes recorded for the soundtrack for 1974's Truck Turner, giving it a jazzy, masterful feel. The real stand-out on the album is the reggae spun "Christmas in Jamaica" with the raunchy, comic vocals of Shaggy. Like the snowflakes it's named after, this CD is a real original. --Jaan Uhelszki

Advantages: only one nice song Disadvantages: not very good
I was really disappoited with this album, luckily i did not buy it but my friend did. I thought that she would have a lot of good songs in it but the only good one was "wasnt man enough". I think she needs to sit down with somebody and write good songs. I liked her song unbreak my heart and that went to number one of the charts and tstayed there for some time and also i liked her song you get me high, that was a really good song but her newer songs ...

Advantages: VELVET VOICE WORTH LISTENING TO Disadvantages: NONE
Toni Braxton was a smoldering fire. From the little Virginia church girl enticed by the secular grooves on Soul Train to the sultry Grammy Award winning songbird to the bankrupt Broadway Belle, Toni’s velvet voice and passion for music endeared her to the public and kept her in the game, despite her misfortunes. Who can forget from her 1993 self-titled debut album, the soulful longing, “Breathe Again” and “Seven Whole Days”, or how about “Love Shoulda ... ...Givens and Halle Berry? Toni came on the scene when R&B/pop music fans were craving for a smooth and soothing voiced songstress that can be compared to and ranked among the likes of loved artists such as Anita Baker and Whitney Houston. Because La Face Records knew of her talents, they wasted no time in signing her in 1992 as their first female artist. Whereas Toni’s first album established her as the preferred female crooner of slow heartbreaking ...
