Tonight - Silk

Advantages: Any Bowie album is worth owning including this one

...Trying to analyse a unique and diverse artist such as David Bowie, it is the ultimate difficult task of configuring what was the real Bowie and what was he exceptional work. I have read several concepts on the album, 'Tonight,' and because I am not the altogether, die hard, 'dye my hair orange and call me Ziggy,' Bowie fan. I have managed to accept this true enough poor album by Bowie as an exceptional album by a different side of Bowie. Anyone who has ever listened to his music and seen him through the decades will have accepted that this chameleonic figure can adapt himself to any musical genre he chooses. I feel that the listener is probably missing out on something here when exclaiming the 'low quality' of 'Tonight.' Advantages: A live album like no other live album ever!

This review is about ‘Tonight, Not Again - Jason Mraz Live At The Eagles Ballroom. ‘Tonight, Not Again’ was recorded live at The Eagles Ballroom (surprisingly!) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 28th 2003 and features 14 tracks, seven from the album and seven others (new, older and live only it is difficult to tell as all tracks are copyrighted 2003). Although there are seven songs from WFMRTC they are so different live that they are almost completely new songs. Adlibbed verses, a more distinct percussion sound and some brass interludes for example. Often with live albums, and this is the main reason I tend not to buy them, the only difference from the original songs is a slight rawness (often removed too much these days in post production) to the sound, solos and the interaction between the band... Advantages: great if you like black american soul / r&b ( the boys II men sound)

...This group are really better known for the track "freak me" but the tracks on this album are all pretty good. Although there is nothing that really stands out musically, its an accomplished and polished style that I personally quite like. I bought it for the track "freak me" which hit the UK charts way back then. Typically for me I guess - but I loved the whole Boys II Men sound and these Silk boys seemed to be a bit 'edgier' - The line " let me lick you up and down" did it for me as a 21 year old clubber! Their sound is similar to other soul type boy bands ballads and up tempo mix - BUT - it just seems a little funkier, grittier maybe? If youve heard freak me - that generally is the style of the remainder of the album. You'll probably enjoy this album more though if you're keen on other groups like the afore mentioned B II M...
