Album Notes: These songs started life as a series of public health messages, recorded by the South African education and health organization the Philani Mothers for the benefit of their community. Remixed by the British producer Peter Raeburn, with updated added instrumentation, they've become a series of hip, funky worldbeat tracks, incorporating the fascinatingly hypnotic "Breathe Together," featuring the South African vocal legend Miriam Makeba, the loose, jazzy, "Speak For Me," and the ethereal, Latin-tinged "Milk."

Rage's best Review ofRage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machineby

Advantages: Powerful and Aggressive Disadvantages: not for everyone
...I brought this self titled album from RATM based on the strength of some of their newer stuff, specifically the singles from The Battle Of Los Angeles. It far exceeded my expectations and in my opinion blows away their later releases. My favourite track on the album is Bullet In The Head, Zach De La Roche's Hard Rock classic that should bring out the rage in any music lover. Bombtrack is another favourite of mne, proving an explosive way to get the album going. Some of the tracks can be a little non descript at time such as Township Rebellion but this is only a minor niggle. Thoroughly recommended for even those with the slightest interest in RATM....

Advantages: The Western world's introduction to African music on a commerical scale Disadvantages: Probably not generally recieved at the time for what it was really worth..
...strange vein could have been picked up as something of a political nature…
The second track is the album titled, 'Graceland,' Composed by Simon, it is a gentle drift back to Mid America hosting The Everley Brothers on vocals as a special American theme. It is mix of loosely played instruments by African musicians and almost their version of Western country music. The bass player flaps around the tune like a scrappy blackbird after a worm in the ground. Baghiti Khumalo added his own personal touched to this track giving it a jammed feel rather than a precise recorded session song. It is a relaxed melody that rolls around and its peaceful on the ears. Simon was never focused on being a hell raiser (not surprising hanging out with Art Garfunkel) so we are guaranteed that we are not going to be offended by his melodies. This is a folk...
